Tampa man killed, Gainesville man critical in Waldo Road accident

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – A 62-year-old Tampa man was killed, a 29-year-old Gainesville man is in critical condition, and a 44-year-old Gainesville woman is in serious condition after an accident on Waldo Road tonight.
At about 7:23 p.m., a Nissan sedan driven by the Gainesville man was traveling north on Waldo Road approaching NE 63rd Avenue, and a Ford sedan driven by the Tampa man was traveling west on NE 63rd Avenue, approaching Waldo Road. The Tampa man failed to stop at the stop sign and traveled into the path of the Nissan sedan, causing the front of the Nissan to hit the left side of the Ford.
Both drivers and the Gainesville woman, who was a passenger in the Ford sedan, were transported to UF Health Shands, where the Tampa man was later pronounced deceased. The Gainesville man is reportedly in critical condition, and the Gainesville woman is in serious condition.
Florida Highway Patrol reported that the Tampa man was wearing a seatbelt, but the report stated that it is unknown whether the other two individuals were wearing seatbelts.
How sad… I pray that the 2 survivors come out of this ok. NE 63rd Ave. is not a long road, and it services the waste facility and a couple other buildings which makes me think he was not asleep at the wheel. Maybe he had a medical emergency???

I agree people need to pay attention but in this case the driver failed to stop at a stop sign. There may have been a medical issue, or simple out of town driver not paying attention. Who knows. Let FHP do their investigation. The tragedy is that people were hurt and a life lost.
