NEWBERRY, Fla. – Jackell A. Harris, 18, was arrested yesterday after allegedly threatening to stab a woman who woke him up to go to school.

At about 11 a.m. on May 5, an Alachua County Sheriff’s Deputy responded to a residence at Brookside Apartments (100 NW 146th Drive), where the victim said that when she told Harris he needed to get up and get ready for school, he jumped out of his bed and said he was “about to snap in here.” Harris allegedly went into the kitchen and picked up a butcher knife, saying he was about to kill himself and others.

The victim ran into her bedroom and quickly closed the door when Harris came toward her with the knife, and Harris allegedly began stabbing the door, yelling that he would kill the victim.

A witness in the apartment said he was in the victim’s bedroom when she ran in and slammed the door; he said he heard Harris stabbing the door with a knife and yelling that he would kill the victim. When Harris heard the victim on the phone with 911, he left the apartment.

The deputy reported that the bedroom door was damaged from being stabbed, and a large butcher knife was found on the stairs near the front door of the apartment.

Harris was later arrested in the 4100 block of SW 34th Street.

Harris, who attends an alternative charter school, has been charged with domestic aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. He has no criminal history. Judge Meshon Rawls ordered him held without bail pending a hearing on a motion from the State Attorney’s Office to hold him without bail until trial; however, the State Attorney’s Office later withdrew the motion, and Judge Denise Ferrero set bail at $15,000.

Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
