The Community Foundation of North Central Florida wants to know where you get your news

Staff report

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The Community Foundation of North Central Florida wants to know where you get your local news, and you can take their survey here.

CFNCF Vice President of Community Engagement told Alachua Chronicle, “Following the steps of foundations across the country, the Community Foundation of North Central Florida is currently reviewing how we might play a role in supporting local journalism efforts. We are currently getting feedback from the community for where they access local news and what topics they are most interested in. We will be convening stakeholders and community leaders in the coming weeks to discuss findings and national trends.

“As local newsrooms have disappeared across the United States, communities have witnessed fading civic engagement, eroding social bonds, surging misinformation, and dwindling governmental accountability. We know philanthropy will play a vital role in supporting and sustaining local journalism. As traditional revenue streams for news organizations continue to decline, philanthropic support will be increasingly crucial in ensuring a vibrant and independent press.”
