The Florida Department of Education and First Lady Casey DeSantis announce Resiliency Florida teacher resources
Press release from Florida Department of Education
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Today, the Florida Department of Education and First Lady Casey DeSantis announced the launch of the Resiliency Florida Teacher Resources. The 44 teacher resources will help teachers educate their students on Florida’s 11 Resiliency Characteristics: Perseverance, Grit, Gratitude, Responsibility, Responsible Decision-Making, Critical Thinking & Problem Solving, Self-Awareness & Self-Management, Mentorship, Citizenship, Honesty, and Empathy.
“Resiliency is integral to preparing the next generation to overcome life’s inevitable challenges—both at home and in the classroom—and to face adversity head-on,” said First Lady Casey DeSantis. “I’ve championed Resiliency Florida to help kids learn how to overcome life’s struggles and to promote virtue in Florida’s classrooms. These new teacher resources build on Florida’s first-in-the-nation approach to resiliency education by equipping K-12 teachers with thoughtful, interactive activities designed to teach students about Florida’s 11 Resiliency Characteristics.”
“Thanks to First Lady Casey DeSantis, Florida has launched a first-of-its-kind initiative to teach students about resiliency,” said Commissioner of Education Anastasios Kamoutsas. “I am proud to be able to provide these resources to Florida’s teachers to bring resiliency into the classroom.”
First Lady DeSantis has championed the Resiliency Florida initiative since February of 2021 to equip Florida’s youth with the skills and virtues necessary to overcome life’s challenges. In March 2023, the State Board of Education adopted the recommendations for this first-in-the-nation approach to resiliency education, designed to impart important skills in early grades and support students as they apply concepts in later grades. The standards embed concepts of civic responsibility through citizenship and mentorship to also help students understand the value of these ideas and actively engage in activities and exercises that will prepare them to be upstanding, responsible citizens. In addition to the resources announced today, Resiliency Florida also offers parent resources to help build resiliency at home.
Resiliency Florida offers a Resiliency Coach training program for parents, grandparents, and mentors to provide them with the tools they need to help students build resiliency.

This is just sad that we need this. Give the teachers a break. Return to an eight hour day and quiet classrooms where the teachers can teach and the students can learn. Give the teachers time to enhance the state curriculum. Center on math, reading and writing. If there are computers in a classroom that students are to use, be certain that there are enough computers for each student. Computers interfere with the teaching of reading enough without two or three children trying to use one. All computers should be operative. Teachers should be trained to keep them running. Reading and math should be first priority. Put the daily words back on the board in front of the room. ‘Aint nobody learning to read if they don’t know what the word means.’
