The Hippodrome Theatre proudly announces its 51st season: Empower
Press release from the Hippodrome Theatre
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The Hippodrome Theatre’s 51st season focuses on stories of strength, perseverance, and empowerment.
Start the season off with the irreverent, foul-mouthed, political funhouse farce, “POTUS: or, Behind Every Great Dumbass Are Seven Women Trying to Keep Him Alive.” Roar with laughter as seven brilliant and beleaguered women panic, problem-solve, and ultimately, persevere to save the President from himself.
Swing into the holiday season by welcoming the return of “The Ultimate Christmas Story (ABRIDGED),” a festive and funny family comedy. Three church members are pressed into service to perform the entire Christmas Variety show by themselves when none of the acts scheduled to perform arrive.
And of course, Gainesville’s beloved holiday “A Christmas Carol” featuring singing and storytelling that people of all ages will enjoy. Join us as we celebrate Scrooge’s redemption through dance, laughter, and heartfelt songs, and become part of this cherished annual family and community event.
Kick January off with an emotional rollercoaster ride in the Tony Award-winning musical, “Next to Normal,” exploring the highs and lows of a modern-day family struggling with mental illness. With an electrifying rock score and heart-wrenching lyrics, this show will leave you on the edge of your seat from start to finish.
In the spring, we meet Gus and Vanessa in the modern comedy, “WHITE.” When a major museum seeks to showcase diverse voices in its next exhibition, Gus, an artist, enlists Vanessa’s help to create an audacious new artistic persona of color to get him in the show. From there it all spins out of control as “WHITE” explores white privilege, racial politics, and the fine line between appropriation and opportunity.
And as always, stay tuned for our summer musical announcement, which promises to be an exciting addition to an already incredible lineup.
Join us for a season of empowerment, as we explore the triumphs and struggles of the human spirit through these incredible stories. Get your tickets and renew your subscriptions now to be a part of this unforgettable theatrical experience.
What an embarrassment that people consider this ‘art’. Once upon a time, art celebrated what was best in a people; now it celebrates what is low and resentful. White privilege; mental illness families; men who can only survive when their wives pull the strings from above them. The sooner the ‘arts’ are starved of funding, the sooner real artists can hopefully emerge.
Perhaps they will bring back the adapted version of All in the Family to satisfy you.
