UPDATE: Barricaded suspect killed by deputy

Staff report
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The suspect barricaded on NW 9th Terrace was shot and killed by a deputy after he fired additional shots at members of the ASO SWAT team. FDLE will conduct an investigation of the use of deadly force by deputies, and the surrounding area will remain closed for an extended period of time.
Original report:
West University Avenue is closed from 8th Street to 11th Street due to a barricaded suspect in an apartment building on NW 9th Terrace.
Click here to watch the update from Captain Sims.
The incident began early this morning when Alachua County Sheriff’s Office Warrants Investigators went to the apartment to serve a felony warrant. The suspect fired a single shot and has been barricaded in the apartment ever since; nobody was injured in the shooting.
There is a large law enforcement presence in the area, and ASO Captain Chris Sims says it appears that it will be “a prolonged incident.”
Sims also said the incident has “nothing to do with the University of Florida,” although one building on campus has been evacuated and is being used by law enforcement.

Didn’t get their free backpack?
Stay safe & thanks LEOs!
What was the warrant for?
Where can I get a free backpack?
Sad news for ASO, taking a life is always the last resource. thanks for keep us safe!
Stopping the threat is the first, and sometimes that ends in the last.
When do the marches start?!?! I want to protest on behalf of my people over this act of police brutality!!
You don’t know anything about anything yet you want to be a part of the problem and ‘protest’. In the name of Jesus go get a job.
He shot at the cop first, that means no march. Idiot. Hope you shoot first.
UF police are acting like they were involved. Was linda stump out there huffing and puffing around waiting for her next heart attack?
If she was there she prolly didn’t have a vest, gun, or duty belt on.
They must’ve been close. Krispy Kreme is right there, after all. ; P
You are brutal!
Edit correction: “waiting for a heart attack”
1. Linda Stump is not the Chief of police anymore . She retired. Bart Knowles is the chief now. 2. When events next to or close to the University all agencies get involved, especially when they are utilizing a building on campus as a command post. Unfortunely college students and UF emplyees are usually preoccupied and have no idea what is going on.
Guess those violence disruptors didn’t work. What’s difficult to understand about, “Put down your weapon and come out with your hands up”?
Although it’s sad when a life is lost, the good guys didn’t get hurt and civilians were possibly kept from harm. Another bonus, tax dollars were saved and residents of the apartment complex can likely sleep in their own beds tonight.
It was too hot, called in sick.
By, ‘Guess those violence disruptors didn’t work.’ were you speaking of gun control? If so, you would be correct. Criminals will crimin.
The City of Gainesville literally had a job posting for a Violence Interruptor. It was one of the strangest job postings I’ve ever seen in my life. The person needed to have a valid license, a degree, good credit, no felonies but also have street cred.
FAFO
One less potential D voter, boohoo for Rockwell fans 😭😭😭
Obviously someone wanted to play a stupid game and won a truly stupid prize. Shooting at the police never works well for a susoect.
Someone was already in the ass kicking line and He got the reward!
Another Dindu Nuffin march on deck. News flash cops shoot back…. A lot
He was a good boy right?
Officer Chris Sims is a total piece of garbage.
As well as about 80% of the other employees.
I am usually opposed to anything the American gov does but its always nice seeing an officer thin the herd. This was commonplace in the soviet union and that is why it was one of the most peaceful and prosperous nations on earth until they all sold out to wear jeans and drink coke during perestroika
is this the shooter?
