Jacksonville man killed in SW Williston Road head-on collision

At 4:02 p.m. today, units from Alachua County Fire Rescue and Gainesville Fire Rescue responded to a reported vehicle accident in the 13100 block of SW Williston Road. Upon arrival, crews found a two-vehicle accident that appeared to be a head-on collision. Alachua County Fire Rescue reported that there were five patients, including one who was entrapped. It took crews 10 minutes to extricate the trapped driver using extrication equipment. Three patients were transported to UF Health Shands, one in serious condition.

According to a later release from the Florida Highway Patrol, a sedan driven by a 29-year-old Jacksonville man was traveling north on SW Williston Road about a quarter mile north of CR 346A, and a pickup truck was parked on the west shoulder, facing south. The sedan crossed the center line, continuing off the roadway to the west, striking the pickup truck head-on. The driver of the sedan was transported from the scene but was pronounced deceased after arriving at the hospital.

The driver of the pickup truck, a 42-year-old Ocala man, had minor injuries, as did a 35-year-old Ocala woman who was a passenger in the truck. A 10-year-old Ocala girl and an 11-year-old Citrus Springs girl, also passengers in the truck, had no injuries.
