Trenton man arrested for fleeing almost 3 miles through Gainesville on a motorcycle

Staff report

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Michael Thomas Williamson, 19, of Trenton, was arrested yesterday morning after fleeing along NW 8th Avenue for almost three miles on a motorcycle; an officer reportedly pulled him off his motorcycle at a stoplight before arresting him.

At about 7:50 a.m. on June 25, a Gainesville Police Department officer was driving eastbound on NW 8th Avenue, west of NW 34th Street, and saw a blue motorcycle committing multiple traffic infractions.

The officer, who was driving an unmarked car, got behind the motorcycle and turned on his lights; he reported that the driver, later identified as Williamson, abruptly accelerated eastbound at a high rate of speed. Due to the risk to the public, the officer turned off his lights and continued driving eastbound.

The officer reported that the motorcycle stopped at a red light at the intersection of NW 8th Avenue and NW 22nd Street, and the officer was only five or six cars behind him; he reported that Williamson looked back at him multiple times.

The motorcycle again stopped at a red light at NW 6th Street; when the officer pulled up behind him, Williamson allegedly tried to flee again by “aggressively” trying to put the motorcycle into gear and maneuver it between other vehicles. The officer reportedly got out of his vehicle and grabbed Williamson, pulling him off his motorcycle and arresting him.

Post Miranda, Williamson reportedly said he saw the lights on the officer’s car, knew an officer was trying to pull him over, and fled.

Williamson has been charged with attempting to elude a police officer, a felony. He has no criminal history, and Judge Meshon Rawls ordered him released on his own recognizance.

Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

  • Don’t waste the taxpayer’s money and just shoot, hang, or electrocute, this punk!

Please include the rest of the hotshot motorcyclists who swerve in between vehicles, (try) to do wheelies to impress other drivers, and all the other asinine things they do to demonstrate their driving talents!

They are a danger to other drivers, and an embarrassment to law abiding motorcyclists!

  • I guess those dumbass bicycle lanes on NW 8th Ave do have a purpose.

    • Speaking of those bicycle lanes, has public works performed a count yet of how many bicycles utilize the wasted use of asphalt, paint and road markers? They have the counters, both mechanical and human, that count vehicular traffic, what’s the count on bicycle traffic?

The public may not need to know, but it should know just how much money the idiots in City Hall wasted for that fiasco; even if 4 people don’t care and just fall in line with the financial waste of tax dollars and inefficient use of public roadways by their locally elected knuckleheads.

  • Now that the obligatory call to murder someone for breaking the law is out of the way, I have to ask just what the “multiple traffic infractions” were, if he had the presence of mind to stop lawfully at two different lights even though he knew he was being followed by the police. Couldn’t have been all that bad.

As much as I dislike shenanigans on motorcycles, and as much as I’m grateful that he was arrested and not just ticketed, I’m stunned by anyone so mentally ill as to suggest or to agree that the best thing to do to an irresponsible kid is to “just shoot, hang, or electrocute” him for it. That’s utter madness, and a perfect example of how to be part of the problem rather than part of the solution.

    • For Realz Michael.
      Totally agree with you.

Thank you for being one of the Few, Conscious Good Folks that comment here.

      To Save the Taxpayers $:

I think you missed your calling to be a Brutalist.

I hear they are hiring in El Salvador for Prison Guards.

It is either that or Psychotherapy for you !

I do not agree with bad drivers or their crimes either.

Yet, come on calling for brutality is a bit much.

      Arrest the kid.
Send him too traffic school, community hours & take his license away.

Yet, calling for a killing not cool dude.☮️☮️💚

  • Oh boy, I bet when the Officer “pulled” the little scuz off his scooter he enjoyed it.
    Congratulations Officer, well done.

  • Ahh sweetie boo, your mama was sadly wrong. You ain’t special after all. Please face what you have reaped & move on if possible.

  • Now we finally know what the consequences are of fleeing an officer of the law on a motorcycle. You get released on your own recognizance.
