Trenton man killed in head-on crash on CR 235

Staff report from Florida Highway Patrol press release

ALACHUA COUNTY, Fla. – A 34-year-old Trenton man was killed early this morning when his sedan crossed the center line of CR 235 and hit a semi head-on.

At about 2:52 a.m. on July 24, the Trenton man was driving a sedan southbound on CR 235, just south of NW 78th Avenue, when the sedan crossed the center line into the northbound lane. Two semis were traveling northbound on CR 235; the sedan side-swiped one of them and hit the other head-on.

The driver of the sedan was pronounced deceased at the scene; he was not wearing a seatbelt.

The first semi was driven by a 62-year-old man from Andersonville, Georgia, and the second semi was driven by a 75-year-old man from Andersonville, Georgia; both were wearing seatbelts. The 62-year-old man was uninjured, and the 75-year-old man suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

  • Don’t know if a seatbelt would have saved his life in this instance but it may have given him a better chance.

Seatbelts save lives AND it’s the law. Wear them.

    • Must be a parent in one of the neighborhoods giving you a thumbs down.

      Or a City Commissioner.
