TS Milton has formed; Alachua County is not currently included in the Governor’s emergency declaration, but officials recommend watching it closely

Staff report

ALACHUA COUNTY, Fla. – Tropical Storm Milton has formed, and Alachua County Emergency Management recommends watching it VERY closely. The storm is too far out right now to know what area is going to be impacted, but what we do know is that somewhere in Florida is going to see impacts, most likely on Wednesday.

ACEM recommends taking this weekend to restock your disaster supply kits, review and/or modify your plans, and make any necessary preparations to your property to minimize any potential impacts.

Governor Ron DeSantis has issused a state of emergency for 35 counties, and Alachua County is not currently included. The Executive Order can be found here.

  • Alachua county is so slow to declare a state of emergency! The schools & hospitals won’t close until the day of!

    • County staff is meeting tomorrow afternoon to discuss the storm. Regardless, there is not much staff can do unless the governor includes the County in the state’s emergency declaration.

  • Hopefully they’ll finish picking up the yard debris from Helene before it becomes loose ammunition for the next storm.

  • I knew it! I knew Alachua County officials caused this!

Have you all driven around town and seen the mountains of debris stacked on the roads? You think we have the means and manpower to get this cleaned up overnight?

    Whiny babies!

    • Don’t depend on FEMA. Their funds have been allocated to the border and resources for illegals.
NC mountains are in dire straits.
Too busy with NC mountains, they have votes to collect elsewhere.
FCC in the mountains have stopped independent search and rescue operations by private individuals.
Pathetic situation that our Government has done to these people.
      Go ahead Jazzman. call them
      Whiny babies!

    • Jazzman:

That GRU biomass was supposed to stop climate change & hurricanes…
      How’s that working out?

Plenty of storm debris to go into it now if Alachua county cleans up the storm debris stacked on the roads.

Put your mask on 😷 on and get your vaccinations💉 because we want you to stay healthy!

      • Jazzhole needs to poke a hole through his face diaper so he can drink his commi kool aid with a paper straw and not infect the unvaccinated with his germs and his liberal mental disorder… poor guy got TDS bad too!

    • Nobody pointed any fingers. We all know it’s a massive job. Nevertheless, those piles are going to become airborne if the storm hits, and that’s a Bad Thing ™.

Governor DeSantis announced today that the debris dropoff sites will be open 24/7 for as long as possible, and he’s mobilized state trucks, personnel, and other infrastructure to be made available to those counties that need assistance with the cleanup. Clearly this is just more sinister GOP intrusion into local politics.

(Mom: If you keep rolling your eyes like that, they’ll get stuck that way.)
