Two arrested and four guns seized after shots fired near SW 34th Street and Hull Road

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Kendrick Latrell Casmere, 20, and Triavez Jhakir Isaiah Hankerson, 20, were arrested late last night on various gun charges during an investigation of shots fired on campus, near the intersection of Hull Road and SW 34th Street.
Officers from the Gainesville Police Department (GPD) and the University of Florida Police Department (UFPD) responded to the area, and the UFPD investigation determined that a white Chevrolet Corvette was related to the incident. Hankerson was reportedly a passenger in the Corvette and was ordered to get out of the car. A search of the Corvette reportedly produced a loaded Taurus G2C 9mm handgun with an extended magazine.
Post Miranda, Hankerson reportedly admitted to possessing the firearm, which was concealed under a seat, and he admitted that he is under 21. Hankerson was charged with illegally concealing a firearm.
A GPD officer determined that shots were fired from a parking lot in the 3800 block of Hull Road, west of 34th Street. While canvassing the parking lot, officers approached a group of people “who were making furtive movements” and saw that Casmere was sitting in the driver’s seat of a car and holding a gun on his lap. When the officers walked up to that car, the gun was no longer visible, so one officer drew his firearm and ordered Casmere out of the vehicle. The officer reported that Casmere hesitated but eventually got out of the vehicle.
A search of the vehicle reportedly produced three firearms – two Canik 9mm pistols and a Springfield .40 cal pistol.
Post Miranda, Casmere reportedly admitted that all three of the guns were his.
Casmere has been charged with grand theft of a firearm, although the arrest report provides no information about which gun was stolen; possession of a firearm by a delinquent under 24 years of age (a person who has been convicted as a juvenile of a crime that would be a felony for an adult); possession of a firearm on school property; and resisting an officer without violence.
Casmere has no criminal history. Judge Lorelie Brannan found no probable cause for any of the charges and ordered him released on his own recognizance.
Hankerson has no criminal history. Judge Brannan ordered him released on his own recognizance with requirements to possess no firearms and make an appointment with his public defender within 48 hours of release.

Since it’s a holiday, First Appearance Orders (which are the documents that show bail amounts) are not posted today. The holiday has nothing to do with whatever bail was set, it’s just that the amount is not available today.

Went to Publix, parking space clearly marked for “Pickup customers,” driver and daughter not picking up, went in and meandered about.

Good job on law enforcement for great response, investigation, and arrest. Poor job on the courts for letting these idiots out. At least 4 gun were taken from people who have no reason to have them given their histories. I predict a long hot summer full of self proclaimed demographically challenged males trying to kill each other for no reason except they think it’s the righteous thing to do.

It was a piss poor investigation, no pc for the charges in the mittimus, neither subject had a criminal history therefore per the first appearance guidelines they fall in that level 1 and level 2 risk level which implies the ROR is justified. This bill provided more agents, more money for technology including fentanyl detecting equipment, speeded up asylum processing so hearings would be held quickly and those failing sent right back. It changed the law in many ways, and whe Trump was in power he was stymied by judges on some of them and GOP congressmen said we needed new legislation.

They were just two young fellas out having a good time with a couple of guns. The judge should be dis-barred for failure to protect the public by allowing these two future prison inmates to return to their criminal activities.
They were probably there reminiscing about the Gun Violence Prevention Summit that took place nearby last August, but there may have been disagreement over which session was most compelling.

The 2nd guy got RR for no record also, and the arresting office also messed up on the paperwork and that is why the judge saw no probable cause for him to be arrested. Weak investigation and after reading the mittimus (charging affidavit) the only charge on both individuals that is justifiable would be possession of a concealed weapon under the age of 21 for both individuals.. As Law enforcement we have to do a better job documenting everything.
Any shell casings found? If so what caliber? Did the brand match those in each firearm? Were the firearms warm to the touch? Did witnesses identify these two? DID YOU RUN A CRIMINAL HISTORY INQUIRY? Obviously not.. Some of these boxes must be checked before making bad arrest. Just because they’re young black males doesn’t automatically mean they’re guilty.. Could it have been them shooting? Absolutely! Did you do a thorough enough investigation to prove that? Nah not even close and sometimes it be like that😒
