GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Kevin Charles Swords, 21, and Ethan Gregory Wood, 21, both of Vero Beach, were arrested in the back yard of a Cottage Grove residence at 2 a.m. last night.
A resident of the Cottage Grove neighborhood called 911 at 2:19 a.m. last night, saying someone was trying to break into the back door of their residence. The caller said two men could be seen in the back yard and described their clothing.
An Alachua County Sheriff’s Deputy responded and reported seeing two men standing in the darkness behind the residence; they reportedly matched the description given by the caller. When the two men saw the deputy, they reportedly ran.
The deputy reported that Swords fell to the ground and was detained. Post Miranda, Swords reportedly said he was intoxicated and just playing a prank on the residents. However, the caller did not know either man.
After being detained, Swords called Wood and persuaded him to surrender to law enforcement; Wood then came out of his hiding place and was detained.
Swords has been charged with loitering/prowling and resisting arrest without violence. He has no criminal history and is being held on $2,000 bail.
Wood has also been charged with loitering/prowling and resisting arrest without violence. He has no criminal history and was released on his own recognizance.
Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Really glad it was not my backyard… would have ended a lot differently I suspect. These days being stupid or criminal should result in the same outcome when it comes to threatening behavior!
Where’s the attempt of burglary of an occupied dwelling????? Wow get a load of this Mr finckly
Sounds like attempted burglary to me. I guess Gainesville is fudging crime numbers. Trying to keep the felonies down to give it the appearance of a safe city.
I know they are nice boys with no criminal record. Not, just thefirst time they were caught.
