Two children transported in critical condition after accident at Archer Road and Parker Road
Staff report
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Two children, ages 5 and 8, were critically injured this morning in an accident at the intersection of Archer Road and Parker Road.
According to a release from the Florida Highway Patrol, at about 7:20 a.m. on April 21, an SUV driven by a 17-year-old Newberry female was in the northbound turn lane of SW Archer Road, preparing to make a left turn onto SW 122nd Street (Parker Road).
A sedan driven by a 38-year-old Gainesville female was traveling southbound on Archer Road, approaching Parker Road.
The SUV had a flashing yellow left turn arrow, and the SUV turned into the path of the sedan, violating the sedan’s right-of-way. The front right of the SUV hit the front right of the sedan, and all occupants were transported to local hospitals.
The driver of the SUV, a 17-year-old female from Newberry, was wearing a seatbelt and suffered minor injuries.
The driver of the sedan, a 38-year-old female from Gainesville, was not wearing a seatbelt and suffered minor injuries. Her two passengers, an 8-year-old female and a 5-year-old male, were not wearing seatbelts and were transported to a local hospital with critical injuries.

How sad. I pray those babies are okay!
How often have we seen children not wearing seatbelts?
Hopefully one of life’s lessons won’t cost anyone’s life.
Praying for everyone to be ok. It’s bad enough when an adult chooses not to wear their seatbelt, but for an adult to make the decision not to make sure the children are secured in a seatbelt…there just is no excuse good enough. We have to protect the children, it’s our job!
Here’s another ignorant mother who chooses not to put her kids in restraints hopefully, they’ll survive and become adults
Just an observation, let’s hope the 17-year old wasn’t the mother.
17 is plenty old enough nowadays to have two kids
It is extremely rare, if not impossible, for a 9-year old to have conceived a child.
For her to have an 8-year old, that’s how old she would have had to be.
I was just trying to point out the driver of the SUV was very likely someone other than the mother.
I read it as the injured kids were in the car of the 38 year old woman.
I stand corrected. Thanks! Sometimes the facts get lost in the translation.
Figures, momma not belted, and kids not in car seats.
It’s one thing for an adult to choose to take the risk of not wearing a seat belt. It’s another thing completely for an adult to choose to not buckle children in. That’s child neglect at best, child abuse at worst.
