Two drivers transported to hospital after Newberry Road crash

NEWBERRY, Fla. – Two drivers were extricated from their vehicles and transported to a local trauma center following what appeared to be a head-on crash on SR 26 last night.
At about 11:30 p.m. on October 24, units from Alachua County Fire Rescue, Newberry Fire Rescue, Alachua County Sheriff’s Office, and Florida Highway Patrol responded to a two-vehicle accident on SR 26 (W. Newberry Road), just east of the city of Newberry.
Both vehicles were heavily damaged, and both drivers had to be removed from their vehicles using the Jaws of Life and advanced extrication techniques. Both drivers were transported to a local trauma center.
Florida Highway Patrol has not yet released information on the victims or its investigation into the cause of the crash.
