Two killed in University Avenue shooting
July 30, 2023
Press release from Gainesville Police Department
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – At approximately 2:42 a.m. this morning, Gainesville Police Department officers were in the area of 900 West University Avenue conducting crowd control when multiple gunshots rang out. Officers made contact with several victims, and two victims succumbed to their injuries.
Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call 352-955-1818 or remain anonymous by contacting the Alachua County Crime Stoppers at 352-372-7867.
Additional information will be provided at a later time as it becomes available.
Would this have been considered a mass shooting? Does anyone know? Why is this not surprising as it is happening nearly every day?
I believe it’s not a “mass shooting” unless it’s 4 or more victims. Gainesville’s getting closer to one of those big blue cities it hopes to emulate though. I bet they didn’t expect these would be some of the results of their policies. Real problem is it’s getting close to home.
Those gun violence circle jerks are having such a great impact.
Given the commission likes to waste their time on things such as the GRU bill, free tampons, blah blah blah – is anyone surprised they have no control over public safety??
What a bunch of morons.
This is what happens when every top cop in the area is a political hack. Watson, Book, Scott (Jones too). I’m uneducated about UPD…maybe their chief is overly political too…I don’t know. Only a few years ago law enforcement was able to contain this mess…it’s very doable.
But sadly the current LE leaders are only in place to further a political agenda, not to serve and protect. These so-called leaders need to be ridiculed and treated with scorn by the public on daily basis.
“Gainesville Police Department officers were in the area of 900 West University Avenue conducting crowd control” at 2:45 am. I believe that open containers are still allowed until 2:30 am, the police were probably trying to enforce the 2:30 alcohol curfew. I believe that the open container law last came before the city commission in March 2023. The police chief argued that open container hours needed to cut way down, if allowed at all. Book, Duncan-Walker and Chestnut voted to cut hours down, but the other 4 commissioners voted to keep the 2:30 limit and therefore facilitated this mayhem.
If you don’t like it here you can always leave
At this rate “The First 48” producers should be about ready to set up shop in Gainesville. It’s usually the same cities over & over (Miami, Atlanta, Dallas, Cleveland, Mobile & a few others). But our city & county commission’s actions over the last decade are coming home to roost & setting the stage for Gainesville to join the club.
Gotta be proud…🤦
Then it’s best to keep that nonsense to yourself.
If you’re not willing to stand by what you feel 100% no matter what the outside consequences are; maybe what you feel inside isn’t conducive to your overall well-being.
Not “always” and not necessarily “old.”
If I remember correctly, many who said they would leave if Trump won the presidency didn’t either.
Why do you suppose that is? Better yet, if it’s so bad and full of racism and bigotry, why are so many risking their lives to get here?
Police helicopter? Police dogs? Open container law? So many EASY questions that should have been answered a long time ago. But we’ve gone from one fat, swaggering, bearded retardo-mayor to another.
