Staff report

ALACHUA COUNTY, Fla. – Two patients were transported to a hospital today after a two-vehicle crash off of North County Road 225 and NE 183rd Place.

At about 4 p.m. on January 30, units from Alachua County Fire Rescue, Gainesville Fire Rescue, and the Melrose Fire Department responded to reports of a vehicle accident off of North County Road 225 and NE 183rd Place.  Units arrived to find a two-vehicle head-on collision between an SUV and sedan.

One patient was entrapped, and units utilized hydraulic rescue tools, commonly referred to as the Jaws of Life, to safely remove the driver from the severely damaged vehicle. Two people were taken to the local hospital for evaluation of serious injuries.

Alachua County Fire Rescue would like to remind everyone to slow down and move over for stopped emergency vehicles.

  • That was a heck of a hit. Looks like a Ford Expedition and what looks like the wheel from a Dodge Charger or Challenger seen in the lower left corner of the second pic.
