Two patients trauma-alerted to local hospital after head-on crash on CR 235A

Staff report

ALACHUA, Fla. – A 65-year-old woman and 43-year-old man were trauma-alerted to a local hospital after a crash this afternoon in Alachua.

According to Alachua Police Department, a passenger car and pickup truck collided head-on at about 4:59 p.m. today near the intersection of Peggy Road and CR 235A when one vehicle that was passing another vehicle in a no-passing zone collided with an oncoming vehicle. Both drivers were trauma-alerted to a local hospital.

  • This is a common occurrence. I travel 235a from Pegg Rd to 441 on average once a day both ways by Semis to autos. APD does a good job but can’t be everywhere. Speed limit went from 45 mph to 50 mph. Travel the speed limit you impede traffic, and looks like a parade behind you.

    • The problem is people passing on the double yellow line which means they are breaking the law! I set my cruise control. 45mp to 50mp isn’t the problem. People are breaking the law by passing where they shouldn’t be.

  • How many serious accidents does it take?
From the top of the hill, heading South past Edgemoor, turn in (207th) towards Peggy Road and up to Ford Dealership. Is a racetrack situation. Need to place a few speed traps in that area till the message is understood. 75mph up is not unusual. You can seriously be destroyed doing 60 in the right lane! It needs to stop now!

  • Driving is a privilege-start taking it away instead of just fining/jail. Remove their privilege when they break the law and we will have less people like this on the road. The person who broke the law by passing in a no passing zone should not even be able to buy a vehicle of any type after this.

  • Double yellow line…no passing zone. What’s the hurry? What a shame. Good grief!
