Gainesville Fire Rescue (GFR) and Alachua County Fire Rescue (ACFR) crews responded to the crash, and ACFR Heavy 23 extricated one patient while GFR E4 provided medical care to the driver of the vehicle that ended up in the tree line; E4 also provided fire suppression.

GFR would like to remind everyone to drive with extra caution during wet conditions and encourage you to wear your seat belt.

  • AND there was a pretty serious wreck about yesterday morning less than 2 miles north of this one, at NW 34th St and NW 39th Ave. that took out a significant section of the neighborhood wall and must have involved injuries as well, but wasn’t mentioned in the news as far as I know. Yes, we all need to stay focused on driving safely and defensively when we are behind the wheel, and the seatbelt warning is a no-brainer. You aren’t going to get ejected if you are wearing a seatbelt. If you get ejected, you are very likely to die. We never hear about the cause of these crashes. I suspect red light running and drivers looking at their phones are the cause of most of these urban crashes Maybe if the cause was reported it might affect behavior.

    • AND, there was an accident at Archer and 34 last night, but no word on that one either. The whole place was lit up like a Christmas tree!

    • AND….last week Monday morning right in front of Rock Creek on 34th Str and 31st Ave there was a head on collision and one car they had to use the JOL to extricate the driver from one of the cars!! 34th Street is a death trap that is used as a raceway, I live on 31st Ave and cannot tell you how many accidents have been there !

    • This was my dad. He fainted at the wheel due to a panic attack. It’s a very scary situation for our family and of course for everyone involved.

      • I don’t mean to come across as rude, but if your dad, or anyone else suffers from panic attacks, epilepsy, memory loss, fainting spells, blackouts, or is on medication that causes mild sedation or drowsiness, it’s really important to consider the risks of driving. These conditions can put not only the driver but also innocent lives in danger. Safety should always come first.

  • wow, the jaws of life really cut that Subaru right in two! I hope everyone survives with minor injuries at most. Stay safe on the roads!

  • Once again, Fire/Rescue is there when you need them. God bless these “everyday” heroes. Prayers for those injured and for the safety of all our Fire/Rescue personnel.
