Updated: Four people arrested for attacking deputies

BY JENNIFER CABRERA

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Euricka Lenore Franklin, 59; Omega Gaye Shanice Franklin, 27; Egypt Monet Young, 30; and Pharaoh Joseph Shauquil Young, 29, were arrested last night after multiple people allegedly interfered with a traffic stop last night.

At about 8:30 p.m. last night, an Alachua County Sheriff’s Deputy conducted a traffic stop in the 700 block of SW 67th Terrace on a car driven by an individual related to both Euricka Franklin and Omega Franklin. The deputy smelled marijuana on the driver and began a narcotics investigation.

Pharaoh Young reportedly approached the car and began taking video of the incident. The deputy reportedly told him multiple times that he could record the incident but must step away from the vehicle. Pharaoh allegedly refused to step back, and then multiple other people arrived and began interfering with the investigation, according to the deputy.

As the deputy began to search the vehicle, he found a small piece of marijuana under the driver’s seat; at that time, Egypt Young allegedly approached the vehicle and refused to back up, disregarding multiple commands. When deputies tried to detain her, she began actively resisting, and a large fight broke out involving five deputies and six to eight other people. When deputies told Egypt Young to place her hands behind her back, she allegedly began running toward a nearby apartment and was tasered; she continued running into the apartment, where a deputy was able to detain her.

Pharaoh Young was allegedly pushing up against a deputy and actively resisted attempts to detain him. A deputy tackled him, and other deputies assisted in detaining him. When deputies tried to place Pharaoh Young in the back seat of a patrol vehicle, he allegedly began actively fighting and kicked two deputies.

A search incident to Pharaoh Young’s arrest reportedly produced about 5.5 grams of MDPV.

While a deputy was trying to detain one of the people at the scene, Euricka Franklin allegedly grabbed him from behind in a chokehold and hit him in the head, neck, and shoulder area until she was physically removed. She allegedly continued to resist until deputies succeeded in detaining her.

During the struggle, Omega Franklin allegedly punched another deputy in the head. That deputy began trying to detain Omega Franklin, and she allegedly continued resisting by kicking her legs and swinging her hands, striking the deputy several times.

Euricka and Omega Franklin were each charged with battery on a deputy, resisting arrest with violence, and resisting arrest without violence.

Euricka Franklin has two felony convictions (one violent), with the most recent in 2008. She has served one state prison sentence for a third or subsequent conviction of petit theft and was released in 2008. Judge Susan Miller-Jones set bail at $7,200.

Omega Franklin has two traffic convictions from 2022 (DUI and driving without a valid license) and a misdemeanor conviction from 2013, along with a juvenile record. Judge Susan Miller-Jones released her on her own recognizance.

Egypt Young has been charged with resisting arrest without violence and has been released from jail. She has several misdemeanor convictions and has had adjudication of guilt withheld on two felony charges, one of which was battery on a law enforcement officer.

Pharaoh Young has been charged with possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, battery on a deputy, resisting arrest with violence, and resisting arrest without violence. He has three felony convictions and has served one state prison sentence for burglary. He is on pre-trial release on charges of sexual assault, lewd and lascivious molestation, lewd and lascivious exhibition, and false imprisonment, all on a victim who was 12 years old. After over a year in jail on $600,000 bond, he was released on his own recognizance with a GPS monitor on February 8; he is scheduled to appear for a change of plea hearing on April 3. Judge Susan Miller-Jones set bail for his most recent arrest at $33,000.

Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

  • Deputies should give the judge’s address to the whole family, so they can send flowers to her. Since they weren’t shot for disrespecting our law enforcement officers, like they should have been instead. So lawyers will starve.

  • You know incidents like this bring to mind what that Tulsa officer said awhile back. A reporter asked him why it was that officers killed so many black people. He responded that officers actually show an incredible amount of restraint, and in all honestly would be justified in killing a whole lot more of these people.

  • It’s time for a 3rd strike law to be put in place 3rd felony 20 years any felony charges after that increase by 10 years get these POS off the streets so no one has to deal with them.

  • They “injected” themselves into a traffic stop/narcotics investigation. They weren’t suspects, they weren’t casual observers. They weren’t asked, they didn’t volunteer. I’m telling you, it’s tribal.

Some people need injections. That’s ’bout all needs to be said ’bout that.

  • You mean to tell me that this Omega lady interfered with a police investigation, punched a Deputy in the head, then this judge just lets her right back out of jail, ROR??!
And people wonder why the cops around here are leaving…
If it’s not the woke, pandering city commission, certain community members, incompetent leadership & a soft-on-crime state attorney’s office- it’s judges like Walter Green and this one ALSO contributing to Gainesville’s crime problem.

    • This happened to GPD…this wouldn’t happen to ASO cause they got k9 dags. .

      • 🎵 “who let the dogs out, who, who, who? “ GPD needs a k9 in every patrol car… See how EZ that was GNV CC?

no open container. See how that was EZ GNV CC? ….what we have here is a lack of city leadership.

        Class dismissed.

  • Part of the issue is the neighborhood. It’s like kicking an ant hill when police try to do their jobs. There is no excuse for their action. Nothing under Florida law justifies or permits someone to physically harm an officer in their legal duties. No excuse for the low bail amounts or no bail amount from the Judge. Maybe when deputies need to enforce the laws in these zoos I mean neighborhoods they need to carry bear spray. And to all the self proclaimed good people that live there. Why are you not out there helping restrain these animals. This is your neighborhood take it back and send these idiots packing.

    • It’s sounds like an episode of the Jerry Springer show…what’s wrong with Judge Susan Miller-Jones? The bonds are too low.

  • They deserve exactly what’s coming to them. Especially the dude.

  • It’s when entitlement goes berserk. Just having a police dog standing there might have averted all of this.

    • If I’m a cop, & I get attacked and put in a choke hold, you’d thing the judge would make the bond $100k to not encourage this type of dangerous behavior…
Isn’t there something on the books for that? Don’t interfere with an active investigation or you will get arrested too..the cops should not have to repeat their warnings to stay away more than once. There needs to be zero tolerance for this type of behavior.

      • That judge with the low bond should be removed by the Governor immediately….what kind of BS is this? We are a nation of laws.

    • Thugs can’t control themselves either.

Just because a person is removed from their environment doesn’t mean you can take the environment out of the person.

  • From the looks of that crew, they must have been driving an Ugly Wagon!

  • SMJ fell off the wagon with these low bonds.. A week or two ago she was handing out six figure bonds… is the person who was watching over her shoulder gone for now? I would be livid as an LEO if I was battered excessively as in the incident above and the perp was ROR’d. No wonder cops are walking away from the career.

  • If these people will attack several cops imagine what they would do to a regular citizen over a minor issue. Sure wish we could move Susie into THEIR neighborhood ..and let her deal with them on a more personable raw level , not just in a secure court room..unbelievable low bail.

  • No, naming your kids Egypt and Pharoah won’t give them an undeserved sense of entitlement, naah… 🙄

    • You should apply to be a judge then you could impose whatever bail you want

  • Due to the lack of ‘equity’ in American journalism today this story will never see the screen on MSNBC or pages of the NYT’s. The corporate news narrative doesn’t allow black Americans to be anything but victims.

Again, thanks to Jennifer Cabrera for filling the truth gap.

  • Doesn’t the SWAG area have a church with a preacher making excuses and getting Dem walking around money for Souls to Polls, yet? That’s why this is happening, it’d be more civil — like District 1, then.

  • And I can’t understand why anyone wouldn’t want multi-unit, affordable housing built in their neighborhood.

    • In today’s world, not wanting these type of thugs to live in your neighborhood, is considered racist. You’re supposed to welcome them with open arms and understand how terrible they have been treated. Never mind that you have to put bars on your windows, be armed to the teeth, install a security system, and adopt a couple of bad ass dogs named killer and diesel, you just need to be more accepting. I always ask myself why the homes in their neighborhoods have bars on the windows? Who are they afraid of? It damn sure isn’t anyone that looks like me. It’s each other!

  • Peace and love to everyone making comments here.

“He without sin…” Seems that true ‘Christians’ forget WWJD😔

The details in this article are most likely derived from the police reports. This means that everything is being reported from the deputies’ perspective. Let’s withhold judgement until we receive more details (hearing both sides, seeing the body cam footage, etc).

Regardless, even if they’re in the wrong (which it seems they are), calling people names, dismissing an entire race (‘JeffK’ and ‘Johnny’), etc. is not the way to solve these types of problems.

Easy to make anonymous comments online, but none of you would put your full/real name to anything you’re saying here. If you can’t say it publicly, don’t hide behind a keyboard.

    • Jesus said, “Let he who is without sin cast the first stone.” That was when people were getting ready to stone a woman to death – not people merely expressing an unpleasant opinion about her. Jesus was big on speaking the truth, which is probably the main reason the left wants to destroy Christianity today. Not casting the first stone would be more akin to not sucker-punching someone in the head, for example. What’s your real name? Just more idiotic projection from a leftist.

  • I see this type of “intervention” all of the time. They act as if their interference makes the law. It’s disgusting and the Criminal Justice system needs to shut this down across the country. I would imagine LEO officers are fed up!
