U.S. Navy Band to perform at Historic Thomas Center

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The City of Gainesville’s Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs Department will host the United States Navy Band Commodores – its premiere jazz ensemble – during a stop on its 2023 national tour.

When: 6:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 27

Where: The City’s Historic Thomas Center, 302 NE 6th Ave.

The outdoor event is part of the Thomas Center Jazz in the Garden series, and will feature original compositions, as well as the music of jazz legends such as Thad Jones, Wayne Shorter, and Tito Puente.

The 18-member jazz ensemble formed in 1969. Its mission includes public concerts, national concert tours, ceremonial support in honoring veterans, jazz education classes and clinics, and protocol performances for high-level military and civilian government officials. 

The event is free and open to the public and is sponsored in part by the U.S. Navy, the Florida Division of Arts and Culture, and the Florida Council on Arts and Culture.
