UF deactivates UF College Republicans at request of parent organization, but UFCR claims it is under a different organization

BY JENNIFER CABRERA

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – This morning, the University of Florida announced that the UF College Republicans (UFCR) student organization was deactivated because the Florida Federated College Republicans (FFCR) revoked its charter; however, UFCR claims that it is under a different organization.

UF’s post says that FFCR found that “some Local CR members engaged in a pattern of conduct that violated its rules and values, including a recent antisemitic gesture” and that when FFCR is ready, the university will assist it with reactivating the local College Republicans organization under new student leadership.

The UFCR account responded with a post from Anthony Sabatini that said he will be filing “a First Amendment retaliation lawsuit under Section 1983” against UF on Monday morning. Sabatini continued, “UF has engaged in enormous viewpoint discrimination over the past year & it must be stopped NOW.”

Florida Gubernatorial candidate James Fishback, who spoke at a UFCR meeting on March 11, wrote, “Let me get this straight: 48 hours after the UF College Republicans hosted me and 500+ supporters, you terminated them, violating the First Amendment, which you are legally bound to as a public university. Disgusting traitors.”

UF College Republicans posted that they are not affiliated with FFCR: “We are proud members of a different organization, [College Republicans of America].”

Alachua County Republican Party Chair Tim Marden posted on Facebook, “I’ve spoken to the UFCR’s President and they were never affiliated with the Florida Federation of College Republicans to begin [with] that they are aware of. Certainly not under the current or recent leadership. They also have no record of this in their club history files.”

FFCR provided evidence of affiliation with UFCR

Alachua Chronicle reviewed a letter dated August 21, 2025, that welcomed UFCR to continued affiliation with FFCR, noting that “the UF College Republicans have long been integral to FFCR, making a significant impact in advancing leadership and civic engagement across Gainesville, Florida… In recognition of this legacy, FFCR is proud to continue UF CRs’ affiliation, contingent upon adherence to UF’s Code of Conduct, the UF CR’s Constitution, and the governing principles of FFCR.”

FFCR did not respond to questions about how long UFCR had been affiliated with FFCR and when FFCR notified UFCR that the charter was being revoked.

UFCR did not respond to a request for documents supporting its claim that it is affiliated with the College Republicans of America (CRA) and when that affiliation began. However, a second letter from FFCR states that FFCR affiliates who wish to disaffiliate from FFCR must obtain 100% approval from all of their members and their Executive Board at a general body meeting with at least 90% of the membership physically present, and the decision must be communicated to FFCR in writing the next day. Official representatives of FFCR must be present at the meeting and must be given the opportunity to address the full membership before any vote is held.

According to Marden’s post, the club claims it was never affiliated with FFCR, and UFCR has made repeated claims today on X that it is affiliated with the College Republicans of America, but the only documentation provided to Alachua Chronicle as of this writing are the letters from FFCR, stating that UFCR has “long” been affiliated with FFCR and providing the articles of affiliation.

  • The silencing of those who peacefully oppose Zionism and the State of Israel will not be allowed.

    The noticing will continue!

The woke right is no better than the woke left. These fringe, party worshiping dolts attempt to cancel anyone who dares to oppose their official party narrative.

    • Whatever…the acceptance of antisemitic tropes like “zionist” is disgusting and not something ANYONE should support!

      • We all have the right to oppose our own government and any associated political ideologies. We damn sure have to right to oppose foreign governments and foreign ideologies, like Zionism; especially when they are not in the best interests of our nation and all citizens. The unbridled Jewish lobby is hell bent on stopping all criticism of Israel, no matter the means and methods used. Enough is enough!

        • Sounds like the current resident of the White House and those who’ve spoken out against him. It’s 2026 and he’s still mad SCOTUS didn’t overturn the 2020 election.

  • If it’s like the other instances of Republican hate then it’s well deserved suspension and indefensible, see below…time will tell we hope. Also see more recent FIU incident.
“On October 14, 2025, Politico reported on 2,900 pages of leaked Telegram chats spanning a seven-month period from leaders of Young Republicans in several U.S. states. The article argued that the messages reveal a culture where racist, antisemitic, and violent rhetoric circulate freely among those positioning themselves as the party’s next leaders.
The leaked Telegram messages contained over 28,000 exchanges from January to August 2025 among leaders of Young Republican chapters in Arizona, Vermont, Kansas, and New York, including at least one member from the Trump administration.
    Content of the Messages
The messages included referring to Black people as monkeys and “the watermelon people,” musing about putting political opponents in gas chambers, talking about raping enemies, and lauding Republicans believed to support slavery.

    • There are people in every group that can not be defended.
Not all Republicans are racists, bigoted, idiots.

I can say the same thing about the Democratic Party.

But there sure is plenty of cross-over on both sides into the undefendable.

      • Agreed.
I have not seen definitive evidence of what actions led to suspension. My point is that if it is similar to what we’ve been seeing in the news recently, UF suspension of the group is warranted and correct. FIU incident.
Florida International University launched an investigation into a WhatsApp group chat started by an official with the Miami-Dade chapter of the Republican Party that included violently racist slurs, antisemitic comments, and misogynistic language. The chat involved students and several top conservative leaders at FIU, according to the Miami Herald, which viewed and independently verified the conversations.
The students exchanged racist slurs, promoted Nazism, complained about “colored professors,” and used the N-word over 400 times, according to the Herald’s reporting.

        • Nothing good comes from slurs, Nazism (I thought that stuff ended in 1945), and the like.

It’s the year 2026, and long since time people shelved this type of thinking.

People need to remember they represent the party and not just themselves.

All of us get painted wrongly for a handful of idiots.

      • Just for clarification, Jews in America vote overwhelmingly for Democrats and Democrats are the least “Zionist” of the 2 major parties. This is highlighted by the popularity of Netanyahu with Republican leaders and their approval of ending the 2 state solution, ceding the West Bank to Israel, the belief among many fundamentaist Christians who tend to be Republican that Israel must be supported as a biblical edict, and the most fundamentalist and Zionist of Jews – the orthodox – supporting Republicans.

So, based on these facts, clearly American Jews are not that sympathetic to Zionism, which is the agressive pro-Israel position on almost all matters, though they largely support the continued existence of Israel.

  • First they came for the Krishnas…

Actually, if UF is uptight about “antisemitism” they should host a debate about mixing politics with religion in history and how well that turns out for the people. Include Zionism and Shiite Twelverism, currently at war with each other for what? And include Islamism, which also doesn’t separate “God and Caesar” as Jesus commanded.
The more folks will be enlightened to stop tribalism and support the melting pot, MAGA again 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸

  • The performative outrage is exhausting from all sides. Rational people who don’t spend their days engaged in hate groups really don’t care. The outrage is that this foolery makes headlines at all.
