UF football player arrested in Tampa on firearm and drug charges
Staff report
TAMPA, Fla. – Dijon Jaquis Johnson, 21, a cornerback on the Florida Gators football team, was arrested on May 2 in Tampa and charged with possession of synthetic marijuana, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, possession of less than 20 grams of marijuana, and resisting an officer without violence.
At about 11:14 p.m. on May 2, a Tampa Police Department officer pulled over a gray Dodge Challenger for stopping beyond the stop bar at an intersection. The driver of the Challenger was identified as Johnson; other occupants of the vehicle are mentioned, but the report does not state how many there were.
The officer reported that Johnson immediately became argumentative and refused to get out of the vehicle despite being asked several times to do so; the officer reportedly removed him from the vehicle and detained him.
A search of the vehicle was conducted, based on the probable cause of a strong odor of burned marijuana, and a backpack was found that reportedly contained Johnson’s passport, along with 8 grams of synthetic marijuana, an unreported quantity of marijuana, and a Glock 19, loaded with 17 rounds in the magazine but no rounds in the chamber.
Johnson has three traffic citations in Alachua County but no other local criminal history. He was released after posting $8,500 bail.
Johnson was a consensus four-star recruit coming out of Wharton High School in Tampa. He appeared in all 12 games of the 2023 season, primarily on special teams, and played at defensive back in all 13 games of the 2024 season, with five starts.
Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
Time for The Firm to circle the wagons.
He can pay his own attorney with the NIL $$$$
Paging Huntley Johnson…
You beat me to it, Johnson is a legend but he has sold his soul to UF.
No round in the chamber, he really is an idiot.
Messing up a good thang!
If he would of gotten busted here in G-ville, we wouldn’t of even heard about it. (Swept under the rug)
Meshon would have ROR’d him..
Does this surprise anyone? He had the potential to have a promising career but the ghetto mindset prevailed.
The ACSB and the C of G think a $150,000,000 stadium boondoggle will stop this gangsta thuggery? Don’t throw my taxpayer money at it!
You can take the tiger out of the jungle but not the jungle out of the tiger.
Who took the tiger out of then jungle and then forced him to be either a donkey or an elephant?😎
what was the commission of the felony part
The possession of a controlled substance
The old ‘hoods still beckon for these players trying to escape, but they feel guilty. Why feel sorry for your ole friends who don’t follow the rules?
He could have told them success in sports means following rules. It’s the same in the rest of life.
That stopping beyond the stop bar law is STUPID and must go. You stop at the stop sign, that’s it. End of story. That law is used only as an excuse for the cops to harass and pull people over.
Hoyt: it’s a driving rule…it’s the law.
Dumbsss needs to learn how to drive and not smoke weed in his car and carry a gun at the same time. He could have run the stop sign and killed someone…maybe you or your loved ones..
Who said he was smoking weed in the car?
The car smelled like weed, did the officer say smoke came billowing out the car?
He could have run the stop sign?
But he didn’t he stopped lol
Stop with the fear mongering don’t you realize that’s the same tactic that has been used against us?
Congratulations on your complete transformation of the process of assimilation.
You thinking like massa dem now , yous a good girl.
He’s a dumbass?
No he’s a young man in his college years, he’s a saint compared to your local frat boys lol.
You could have been intelligent, and that would have benefited society but you aren’t, so can we call you a dumbass for that?
Common sense? Well, I’m not the dumbass who got arrested 🤣
seen it bf when i worked at jail, privilege was unbelievable , i say off team and out of the school . i am an alumnus and also played a little ball , if we got caught smoking a cig, ax would fall
When the players are in and out of jail it usually means Gators will win the natty
Dijon Jaquis some idiot named their child after mustard??? Then threw in some made up name after it to add to the fun.
Yeah, like white peoples’ names are so meaningful, “Dan”.
Most of us aren’t named after mustard.
The felony was driving a nice car while black and young. 8 grams?
No wonder he didn’t want to get out of the car since it was the end of his future over dumb crap young people do. We’re less safe after that future has been trashed. All of you sure your kids won’t be in a car with weed and someone packing? Most of you promote the 2nd part.
