UF/IFAS Extension Alachua County names new family and consumer sciences agent
Press release from Alachua County
ALACHUA COUNTY, Fla. – UF/IFAS Extension Alachua County has named Ebony Griffin as its new family and consumer sciences agent.
Griffin joined UF/IFAS Extension in 2018 through the Family Nutrition Program in Broward County, first working as a part-time office assistant before becoming a nutrition educator.
She later served as extension program manager for the North Central Region, where she supervised six nutrition educators across seven counties. In 2024, she joined the state team as a youth program specialist.
Griffin holds a master’s degree in education from Nova Southeastern University. She spent nearly a decade teaching K–12 general education and theater in Broward County schools and community youth programs. A certified chef and graduate of Le Cordon Bleu, she specializes in American and French cuisine. She also has experience in radio, publishing, and online cooking content.
In her new role, Griffin will lead programs in food preservation, food safety, culinary arts, food entrepreneurship, and community outreach.

Since Alachua Chronicle selectively decides which news you can comment on, I’ll ask it here. Is any tax money involved in the Dance Alive project?
I believe they are given bed tax dollars paid for hotel room stays. These bed tax dollars are generally justified( by local government) to pay for increased infrastructure (roads) created by out of town guests who don’t live here. So think of it like a temporary property tax.
If they lived here they would pay property taxes.
I think some of that bed tax money here in Alachua County is used to promote other attraction like Dance Alive. And there is some validity to that.
Newberry has ‘Champions Baseball Park’ which is a huge driver of bed tax dollars. And was paid for by them.
And the governor vetoed a legislative appropriation: https://alachuachronicle.com/desantis-vetoes-funding-for-multiple-local-projects/
gotta say , she looks a little over nutritioned
A “nutrition educator” looks like she is not following the health plan. Obesity is NOT healthy.
