UF student arrested on sexual battery charges

BY JENNIFER CABRERA

Boping Zhang, 19, who is listed as a UF student on the arrest report, was arrested yesterday and charged with sexual battery and simple battery after a woman reported he had raped her.

According to the victim, she and Zhang were acquaintances who agreed to meet for lunch for the first time yesterday. After lunch, Zhang drove her back to his residence, the Stayable Select hotel on SW 13th Street. The victim reported that while they were talking in the hotel room, Zhang grabbed her throat and forced her to drink an alcoholic beverage. She said he held her throat three times and that she could not breathe. She said he then forced her onto the bed and sexually battered her, although she kept telling him to stop. The officer who took her statement reported that she had injuries to her neck that were consistent with her account.

Post Miranda, Zhang reportedly only admitted to kissing the victim at first; he later admitted to holding an alcoholic beverage to her mouth but said he did not force her to drink. He reportedly maintained that the encounter was consensual. He has been charged with sexual battery and simple battery and is being held on $250,000 bond.

Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

  • Her word against his. Maybe there’s DNA evidence. This is a good lesson for young women to remind themselves to avoid being alone with men whom they don’t know and trust well.

    • It’s a good reminder to have a concealed carry permit and a weapon. Sexual battery is a forcible dealing, which you can use lethal force to prevent.

  • Liberalville should post pictures on billboards of these creeps and show the bail and jail. But wait! That would be cruel and unjust treatment for the criminals!
