Staff report
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – A 19-year-old university student was trauma-alerted to a hospital with life-threatening injuries after being hit by a box truck on campus this morning.
According to information released by the Gainesville Police Department (GPD), at about 10:34 a.m. on February 23, a box truck was traveling southbound on Buckman Drive when a pedestrian entered the roadway eastbound near a marked crosswalk, about 100 yards south of University Avenue, and the box truck hit the pedestrian.
GPD is conducting an investigation into the incident.

Let Me guess!🤔
The Student had headphones on and on their phone while walking across the street! THEY WILL NEVER LEARN🙄😢
The problem here is these armchair judges have it all figured out without a single fact except that there was a pedestrian hit by a Hare Krishna box truck. Demand facts first instead of pontificating, folks.
If students think they own the road
most don’t look while crossing and the article said near the cross walk
Distracted walking?
All the people claiming it was the students fault not paying attention, campus rules are very clear that students have the right of way no matter what.
The Laws of Physics trump man’s laws every time. Hard lesson.
I just finished updating my website http://www.RepairUF.net, and under Work-Orders, I listed that UF should paint those orange lines on Buckman Drive and Stadium Road. Pedestrians have the right of way, yet they should still look both ways!
What does “near a crosswalk” mean exactly? Too many young adults are on their phones or wearing earphones walking around like zombies. Not to accuse this specific pedestrian, but we need to make this point every fall with a new batch of airheads away for the first time.
It’s reported elsewhere that the truck driver was a Krishna, presumably delivering lunch supplies. He must have earned some bad Karma somewhere along the line.
UF students often jump out in front of cars approaching the crosswalks giving cars little time to react and come to a stop. Perhaps as bad as this was it will be a wake up call for them.
