SFC students bring Model United Nations experience to Millhopper Montessori School

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Millhopper Montessori School students in 7th and 8th grades recently took part in a captivating and interactive Model United Nations experience facilitated by Dr. Jennifer Forshee, as well as Model UN delegates from Santa Fe College.
Throughout this experience, students stepped into the roles of country representatives and worked collaboratively to address global topics. They proposed solutions, engaged in thoughtful discussion with peers, and participated in voting on proposed resolutions. Some issues sparked deeper discussion and debate between them, offering students insight into the complexities of global decision-making, while others were approved with little problems.
The program provided students with a meaningful opportunity to practice communication, collaboration, and critical thinking while gaining a broader understanding of world perspectives.
Millhopper Montessori School is incredibly grateful and extends sincere thanks to Dr. Forshee and the Santa Fe College delegates for guiding our students and taking their time for this memorable experience.

I hope they are learning accurate civics and how our own jurisdictions of government are supposed to operate. We were never intended to be part of a global government.

The world shrank in the 20th century and continues to do so, so of course we need an international forum to further whatever principles we as humans can agree on and need to for our survival. Since WWII ended we have managed to avoid another one, an extended period of peace free of major wars and with international competition. The UN plays a role in that and we’d be foolish to not recognize the accomplishment and the way forward.
