UFPD mourns the loss of officer to cancer

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The University of Florida Police Department is mourning the loss of Officer Ricky Morgan after a battle with cancer.

According to the Alachua 10-42 Facebook page, Morgan joined the department in 2013. During his time at the agency, he served as a Field Training Officer and an explosives K-9 handler with his canine partner Apollo.

Morgan was diagnosed with cancer in 2021, was forced into a limited-duty capacity in late 2022, and medically retired in July 2023.

Proceeds from sales of a UFPD K-9 coin will go toward expenses for Officer Morgan’s family.
