Umatilla woman in critical condition after collision with semi

ALACHUA COUNTY, Fla. – A 31-year-old Umatilla woman was transported to the hospital with life-threatening injuries after colliding with a semi on U.S. Hwy 301 near Island Grove.

According to a Florida Highway Patrol report, the woman was driving an SUV northbound in the southbound lanes of U.S. Hwy 301 near CR 325 at about 9:56 a.m. today when a semi approached traveling southbound. Both vehicles swerved in an attempt to avoid a collision, causing a t-bone impact. The driver of the SUV was air-lifted to UF Health Shands with life-threatening injuries.

The semi was driven by a 33-year-old Jacksonville man who was wearing his seatbelt; his injuries are listed as minor. The report states that it is unknown whether the injured woman was wearing a seatbelt.
