Update on shooting: man arrested for firearm possession allegedly shot at vehicles while exiting Come N Go
Staff report
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Gainesville Police Department has released additional information about a shooting on Monday at the Come N Go at 1150 NE 16th Avenue; Courtney Edward Crosby, 33, was arrested and charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and resisting arrest, and additional charges are pending further investigation.
On July 24, Crosby called 911 to report that someone shot at him at the Come N Go; he said the shooter was in a U-Haul van and was stopped at the traffic light at NW 16th Avenue and N. Main Street.
GPD officers immediately responded to the area, conducted a traffic stop on the U-Haul, and ordered the driver from the van. The driver complied and was detained and placed in a patrol vehicle.
While the officers were conducting the investigation, Crosby allegedly ran toward the patrol car and tried to open the car door, yelling that he was going to kill the U-Haul driver. Officers intervened and attempted to handcuff Crosby, who allegedly physically resisted. Officers were eventually able to detain Crosby and place him in a separate patrol vehicle.
Officers conducted interviews of both parties on the scene, and the investigation revealed that the driver of the U-Haul van was in the parking lot of Bentley’s, located at 1138 NE 16th Avenue, when shots were fired and he fled the area in the U-Haul vehicle.
Surveillance footage reportedly captured Crosby exiting the Come N Go in the adjacent lot while firing a gun, and Crosby’s vehicle sustained bullet holes. In addition, a firearm was reportedly located inside the vehicle. A check of Crosby’s record revealed that he was a convicted felon.Â
Crosby complained of physical injuries and was transported to the hospital and then to the Alachua County Jail. He was charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and resisting without violence.
GPD Detectives are actively investigating both cases, therefore initial information is limited. Anyone with information about both crimes is asked to contact GPD Detectives at 352-393-7670 or remain anonymous by reporting tips to the Alachua County Crime Stoppers at www.stopcrime.tv.Â
GPD urges everyone to report all instances of gun violence and proposed violence observed in person and/or on social media.
This is still a very confusing article. Did Crosby shoot his own vehicle? What about the driver in the U-Haul? Was his vehicle shot too?
That is what the release said (Crosby’s vehicle was shot, no mention of the U-Haul).
It sounds like he tried to create his own cover story as the victim but failed miserably since he was caught on camera shooting. I think it’s confusing because he’s a horrible liar.
Our once pleasant and reasonably safe university community is descending into lawlessness and chaos, as those in power care more about looking woke and showing off their globalist credentials than they do about the people of our city.
I honestly am amazed that there are still people willing to work on the front lines in law enforcement anymore. Especially the night shift…
This is a result of Dems running Gainesville. Look all over the country especially those run by Dems. They are not safe anymore and will become worse.
“Try that in a small town.”
Gainesville is a small town but it has big city aspirations…also has big taxes, big utility rates and big crime. Let’s not forget the big ignorance that leads to voting for big idiots.
That store has been a hot-bed of crime, shootings for many years.
ROR the defendant, ankle monitor no battery. It is widely known among the criminal element that that the 8th circuit is the place to commit crime.
Little or no penalty, liberal judicial system, (Gainesville mostly) catch n release.
Need to change the name of the store from “Come N Go” to ” Come N Shoot”
