Video: ASO Deputy saves man hit by car

Staff report based on Alachua County Sheriff’s Office video
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – A man is lucky to be alive after he was hit by a vehicle in the early hours of January 11 and an Alachua County Sheriff’s Deputy stopped to perform CPR.
The deputy was traveling westbound on East University Avenue when she saw a vehicle strike a pedestrian while she was looking in her rearview mirror. She made a U-turn and ran toward the man, who was lying unconscious in the roadway and not breathing. She started CPR while calling for EMS and providing updates on her radio and continued CPR for more than a minute. A second deputy arrived and performed chest compressions; the victim was revived at the scene and transported to a local hospital, where he is in stable condition.
Body-worn camera video from the incident can be seen here, but viewer discretion is advised.
Great work officer!
Excellent news! Bravo to the deputy for being calm under pressure. Despite what people may think, training isn’t doing, maintaining your calm in intense situations is a personal characteristic. She is a stellar example of the quality of deputy we deserve.
Great job! Doing the right thing when no one is watching.
