Video: GFR responds to house fire in Suburban Heights, apartment fire on NW 16th Street

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Gainesville Fire Rescue (GFR) firefighters responded to two structure fires on Thursday, an apartment fire alarm in the 300 block of NW 16th Street and a residential structure fire in the 4400 block of NW 18th Place.
Apartment fire
At 5:54 p.m., Gainesville Fire Rescue crews were dispatched to an apartment fire and found a fire on the second floor. Crews responded within five minutes and were able to access the apartment in question to prevent further spread of the fire and search for victims. All apartment occupants were successfully evacuated, and GFR crews extinguished the fire within 10 minutes of arrival.
Suburban Heights fire
At 10:50 p.m., GFR crews were dispatched to a residential structure fire in the Suburban Heights neighborhood. A total of 18 firefighters responded and immediately began applying water to the fire and searching for victims.
No civilians or firefighters were injured in either fire. Gainesville Fire Rescue encourages all neighbors to have working smoke detectors in their home, as well as a safety plan for evacuating in case of emergencies.
GFR needs a raise; saw the apartment fire from start to finish—couldn’t believe how fast they got it out. They sawed through the roof and were in the unit within 90 seconds of rolling up. Keep your cheap Amazon gadgets unplugged!!
