Waldo man charged with attempted homicide after reportedly telling deputy he decided to kill his wife when he woke up that morning
Staff report
WALDO, Fla. – Rolando Perez, 52, was arrested yesterday morning and charged with attempted homicide after allegedly trying to choke his wife.
At about 7:44 a.m. on July 5, an Alachua County Sheriff’s Deputy responded to a call about a possible suicide attempt at Perez’s home in Waldo.
Perez’s wife reportedly told the deputy she had been sleeping when Perez pulled the blanket off her. She said she thought he was intentionally waking her up and asked him to stop, but he immediately sat on her and choked her. She said she lost consciousness for an unknown amount of time before a juvenile family member intervened, separated the couple, and escorted Perez to a different room.
The deputy reported that the victim’s injuries were consistent with her account of the incident, and she was transported to an emergency room for medical treatment.
Post Miranda, Perez reportedly said that when he woke up that morning, he decided he was going to kill his wife; he reportedly described the incident in detail. He reportedly said that when she regained consciousness, she tried to get away from him, and he chased her, grabbed her from behind, and tried to choke her again until the juvenile family member walked in and told him to stop. He said he released the victim and went into the kitchen, where he armed himself with a knife to end his own life, but another family member took the knife from him and held him against the couch until the deputy arrived.
Perez reportedly told the deputy that if the juvenile family member had not walked in, he would have killed his wife. He reportedly could not explain why he woke up with the urge to kill his wife.
Perez has no local criminal history. Judge Jonathan Ramsey ordered him held without bail.
Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
Most people think of a cup of coffee when they wake up.
Best comment ever!
Perhaps, try the decaf.
Does he have a history of using drugs, perhaps? Sorry bud, that’s no excuse.🤡👹💊⚰️
Sounds like that guy needed to do what I do… Wake and bake. It makes everything better and tolerable.
I hope he is charged with attempted murder. That family member was divine intervention. What a POS.

Seriously? It’s like you’re not even trying.
damm waldo on the map again
Perez has no local criminal history, so driving without a license, a DUI and a hit and run don’t count? He’s from Guatemala and clearly has NO respect for our laws in America..
He’ll be back home this week. Wife will refuse to press charges, stating he’s a “Good Man”. He’ll be ordered to have a MH evaluation and after two meetings “Cured”. It was just a bad dream he was having. Sorry for being sarcastic in a serious matter but what is solution. Jail? No.
I bet Perez is one of Brandon’s boys, a newcomer.
this man has mental issues. He does not take drugs or alcohol. He has depression and has had it for years and years. He never treated himself. Not an excuse at all because he’s disgusting for doing this. Should rot in prison.
