Watermelon Pond Park boat ramp temporarily closed

Press release from Alachua County
NEWBERRY, Fla. – Alachua County Parks and Open Spaces has temporarily closed the Watermelon Pond Park boat ramp to the launching of watercraft due to low water levels caused by ongoing dry conditions.
The Watermelon Pond Park boat ramp (10700 SW 250th St., Newberry) is unsafe for vessel launching as water levels at the site have dropped significantly.
There is no estimated date for reopening the boat ramp. The closure will remain in effect until sufficient rainfall raises water levels that allow for safe access.

Continue to convert and develop farm land to subdivisions. Cover the area in hardscape. Invite tens of thousands of people to live here. When water becomes even more scarce, demand residents conserve water through threats, intimidation and ever increasing water costs. Today, safely blame rain scarcity as the leading cause of low water levels. Twenty years from today, where will the blame lay? If few care about tomorrow then, sleep soundly today and let tomorrow care for itself.
It is God’s will! Punishing Alachua County for supporting sinners!
Yeah Mo the future springs county.
