Wells Fargo District Manager arrested for Target shoplifting spree across at least three cities

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Ivey Marie Weiss, 49, of Ocala, was arrested yesterday and charged with shoplifting and engaging in a scheme to defraud after allegedly stealing over $160 in items from the Target store in Gainesville. According to the arrest report, Weiss is a District Senior Manager for Wells Fargo who has accumulated nine previous theft cases in the Target stores in Tallahassee, Gainesville, and Ocala.

At about 4 p.m. yesterday, a Loss Prevention Officer (LPO) at Target alerted a Gainesville Police Department (GPD) officer that Weiss was in the store; the LPO was reportedly “very familiar” with Weiss, who has previously been identified in a different shoplifting investigation. The LPO said Weiss is known as a “traveling scammer and thief” who travels to different Target stores in various cities, including Tallahassee, Gainesville, and Ocala.

In each instance, Weiss allegedly fills a shopping cart with hundreds of dollars in merchandise, then scans and pays for a few items to generate a receipt she can show to a store associate as she walks out. She then allegedly leaves the store without paying for a majority of the items in her shopping cart. In the previous nine cases, she allegedly stole items worth $1,281.18 and, according to the arrest report, “constantly steals bedding items and LEGO toy items each time she does this.”

Yesterday, Weiss was reportedly watched on surveillance video for most of the time that she was in the store. She allegedly put items worth $166.59 into her cart and went to a self-checkout register, then scanned two items totaling $4.83 and used a gift card to pay the bill. With a paper receipt in hand, she allegedly exited the front door with the merchandise in bags. She was reportedly detained by the LPO and the GPD officer.

When asked why she repeatedly shoplifts when she has a good job, Weiss reportedly said she just didn’t have an answer.

Weiss has no criminal convictions; Judge Susan Miller-Jones released her on her own recognizance.

  • IIs this story REAL? She was a traveling scammer and was seen on camera and police was called and she was released on her “on recognizance” HOW?

  • Next thing she will be doing is helping herself to some of her bank member’s funds. I am slightly shocked that Wells Fargo has not let her go as of yet. This cannot be good press for them.

  • She won’t get fired. Wells Fargo is a terrible company. Hell she will probably get promoted. That’s how demented the culture is there. You also get promoted for banging the help.
