Williston man on probation arrested in Midtown for marijuana and firearm possession
Staff report
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Quante Kadhari Young, 29, of Williston, was arrested early this morning in Midtown after an officer pulled him over for a window tint violation and reportedly found a pistol and a small amount of marijuana in the vehicle; both items violated the terms of his probation.
At about 2:50 a.m. on November 1, a Gainesville Police Department officer conducted a traffic stop for illegal window tint on a white BMW in the 900 block of West University Avenue. The officer reported that Young was driving the car and was “initially argumentative and was slowly rolling westbound” before eventually pulling over.
The officer reported that he smelled marijuana as he approached the vehicle, and he said the passenger suddenly reached between his seat and the passenger side door; the officer reported that the passenger’s actions were “consistent with someone reaching for a firearm” and drew his firearm but did not point it at the passenger while telling the passenger to stop reaching into that space.
The passenger reportedly said he was not reaching for a firearm, but he said there was a firearm in the vehicle; the officer then saw a pistol on the front passenger floorboard, in plain view. He ordered both Young and the passenger to get out of the vehicle.
Both men reportedly said they do not have a medical marijuana card, and a search of the vehicle reportedly produced crumbs on the floorboard that tested positive for marijuana.
The passenger said the firearm belonged to him.
Post Miranda, Young reportedly said he didn’t know there was a gun in the car but said the car belonged to him.
The officer concluded that the gun was within Young’s reach and that Young “should have reasonably known about the firearm in his vehicle. As such, [Young] exercised constructive possession over the firearm.”
Young was arrested for violating probation. He has juvenile convictions between 2010 and 2013, two adult felony convictions (non-violent), and five adult misdemeanor convictions (non-violent). He was sentenced to three years of probation in 2024 for possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia; he was charged with driving without a valid license in November 2024, but Judge William Davis reinstated his probation with the original terms, and the charge was dropped.
Judge Meshon Rawls ordered him held without bail until the probation violation is resolved.
Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

“Judge Meshon Rawls ordered him held without bail until the probation violation is resolved.”
And how might the probation be ‘resolved’ Judge? Another probation? You people are ridiculous.
I smell marijuana every day from vehicles. Start pulling their dumb asses over and you’re likely to find more firearms in the possession of felons.
Unfortunately, many on the left side of the law will claim the PoPo are racially profiling instead of thanks for doing what you can to keep us safe.
For the Pot charge they had to vacuum his carpet, for 2 men that had Rx Card for it. The Gun might have been his friends and imagine he was trying to hide it as stopped. First, why are we vacuuming carpets of cars we stop for Possible Tint Violations that were never Cited they were so Huge an Issue. Young Man needs better company and to make better choices, but our Police are still targeting Youth of Color
1. They don’t vacuum carpet on the side of the road 2. It clearly says neither of them had a medical Marijuana card. 3. Quit being a professional victim – not immediately stopping, admitting to a firearm in the car, and being argumentative, aren’t going to get you any favors.
Judge Davis makes another BS judgements. Dope and guns in a vehicle with dark tint and slow rolling. What did this young scholar think would happen? Won another stupid prize.
The driver was already in the ass-kicking lane, and he finally got the reward!
