Woman arrested for aggravated battery after allegedly hitting her boyfriend with a car

Staff report

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Granisha Nicole Day, 24, was arrested yesterday and charged with aggravated domestic battery after allegedly hitting her boyfriend with her car.

The victim told a Gainesville Police Department officer that he and Day had gotten into a verbal argument, and as a result, he had started walking down the road. He said he saw Day driving toward him in her car, and as he looked back, he saw her turn the car toward him and almost hit him. He said he threw a glass bottle at the car and tried to walk away.

However, the victim said Day accelerated toward him and hit him with the car; he said he rolled over the top of the car and fell off the trunk as she continued to accelerate. Day reportedly left the scene.

The officer made contact with Day by phone, and she reportedly stated spontaneously that she did not mean to hit the victim with her car and that she was “trying to do what she thought was best.” She also reportedly said she hit him with the car in self-defense.

Post Miranda, Day reportedly said the victim had thrown her on the ground and that she left in her car but realized she still had her boyfriend’s backpack. She said she returned to the area to give him the backpack and that when she pulled up, her boyfriend started punching and hitting her in the head. The officer noted that Day had no noticeable physical injuries.

A witness told the officer that he heard someone screaming “that she was going to do it,” heard a loud thud and screaming, and ran outside to find the victim on the ground.

The officer reported that the whole incident was captured on a video doorbell and that it showed Day trying to hit the victim with her car, at which point the victim threw a bottle at her car and began walking away. Day then turned her car and drove it directly at the victim, causing the victim to roll over the top of the car and fall to the ground.

Day has one previous felony conviction for depositing fraudulent money orders and spending almost $12,000 in stolen funds; she was sentenced to 12 months of probation in April 2022. Judge Meshon Rawls set bail at $50,000.
