Woman arrested for threatening group home resident with knife
Staff report
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Salimah Afeefah Hasan, 45, was arrested yesterday and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon after allegedly threatening to kill a group home resident with a blade wrapped in a napkin.
At about 7:09 p.m. on July 16, Hasan reportedly got into an argument with a resident of a group home in the 3000 block of SW 35th Place. The victim told the responding Gainesville Police Department officer that the argument escalated when Hasan walked toward her with a blade wrapped in a napkin and yelled, “I will cut you and I will kill you.” Hasan reportedly went to her room, put the knife down, and then went outside to smoke a cigarette. The victim reportedly suffered no injuries in the incident.
A witness told the officer she was sitting next to the victim during the incident and corroborated the victim’s account.
Post Miranda, Hasan reportedly said she had argued with the victim but never walked over to her. She reportedly admitted having a blade wrapped in a napkin but said she was not near the victim and that she was speaking to a friend when she said, “Don’t come near me because I’ll cut you.”
Hasan has one felony conviction (non-violent). Judge Kristine Van Vorst set bail at $50,000 and ordered her to find another place to live so she would not come into contact with the victim.
Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
Unfortunely this woman probably needs to be in a group home but she may need some more mental health meds too. Right now the county jail group home will have to do.
She was on a group home at the time of the incident. This is my good friend who had a heart of gold until she was struck by a car while crossing the road that left her with a very serious brain injury that landed her in a group home. She lived a good life until she had that car accident. She ain’t never been violent in her life before now….NEVER!!!!
Woe! Must be hard to sleep at that group home. Need to keep one eye open.
I can see it now… Ruled incompetent to stand trial, and released with no place to go.
She should’ve used that knife to cut that thing off her eye. I feel bad for her, I don’t think she could see what she was getting herself into.
This lady right here was the sweetest person in the world. She was involved in a car accident where she was struck and hurt very seriously and due to her injuries she sustained brain damage. Don’t make fun of her and think it’s OK. I’ll speak for her!!!!! Man this world is so cruel and sad. Please don’t come for her!!!! This is my friend!!!!
She’s very kind and extremely clean. I worked with her years ago. I hope she can get the help she needs.
