Woman arrested for threatening to kill neighbor who asked her husband to stop their dog from jumping the fence

Staff report

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Clairissa Ann Smith, 30, was arrested last night after allegedly threatening to kill a neighbor and burn down his house after the neighbor asked her husband to keep their dog from jumping over the fence.

A Gainesville Police Department officer reported that at about 8 p.m., Smith became upset with the victim because the victim had told Smith’s husband that they needed to stop their dog from jumping over the fence, leading to a confrontation between the victim and Smith’s husband.

Smith allegedly sent a text to the victim that said, “Keep on I will burn your f***ing house down and cut your f***ing throat !!!!”

Smith reportedly told the officer she had been asleep and did not have her phone, and then she reportedly said she’d had her phone all day, but she did not know where it was. She reportedly confirmed that the number that sent the text was her phone number.

Smith has been charged with sending a written threat to kill. She has no criminal history, and Judge Joy Danne ordered her released on her own recognizance with a prohibition against possessing any weapons.

Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law

  • Does the weapons include steak knives? Clearly this lady has anger issues. I guess this judge is trying make a name for herself.

    • Danne is assigned civil traffic court. She is only a back up criminal court judge. Not first string.

  • It’s strict liability in the state of Florida and she needs to be in control of her animal at all times…

a pit bull escaping your fenced yard can kill another pet or human being like that woman who was recently mauled to death when babysitting her relatives children and that was on the families property..

  • People who don’t want a dog don’t want one jumping their fence into their yard, or otherwise. If you can’t control your dog, move out and let someone move into your house that can control your dog, because the dog isn’t the problem, that scuzzy owner of the dog is.

  • I guess next time the neighbor victim will defend themself and call the police, instead of being polite and talking directly to a neighbor. The police should have impounded the dog until the fence problem was solved and charged the owner a premium for boarding.
