Woman charged with pepper-spraying man after entering residence uninvited

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Naya Janea Irving, 18, was arrested early this morning after allegedly entering a residence uninvited and pepper-spraying a man.

At about 11 p.m. last night, Irving allegedly showed up at a residence uninvited and began knocking on the door. A 6-year-old boy answered the door, and Irving reportedly walked in, asking for a woman who lived there. A man told Irving she wasn’t allowed in the residence and asked her to leave, but Irving allegedly sprayed the man in the eyes with pepper spray and continued looking for the woman.

The man reportedly tried to push Irving out of the residence, and Irving allegedly pushed back. The man was reportedly able to push Irving out the door, and while he was trying to shut the door, Irving allegedly reached in and punched him in the face with a closed fist. The Gainesville Police Department officer who responded made a note that the victim’s injuries were consistent with his account.

Post Miranda, Irving reportedly admitted that she walked into the residence uninvited and admitted pushing the man and pushing the door, which hit the victim. She reportedly denied pepper-spraying the victim.

Irving, who turned 18 about two weeks ago, has a juvenile criminal history. She has been charged with battery during burglary, and Judge Thomas Jaworski set bail at $20,000.
