Woman on probation arrested for cutting family member’s face with a glass bottle

Staff report

ALACHUA COUNTY, Fla. – Daysha Diane Nicole Delima, 29, was arrested last night for allegedly cutting a family member’s face with a glass bottle.

At about 11:10 p.m. on May 3, an Alachua County Sheriff’s Deputy responded to the victim’s apartment and spoke with Delima, who was sitting outside the apartment. Delima reportedly said she was attacked and bitten on the lip by the victim; when the deputy asked whether a bottle had been involved, Delima reportedly said she had pushed a bottle off of something to the ground, but she did not provide any additional information.

Inside the apartment, the deputy reported seeing blood droplets on the ground, and the victim was holding a shirt over her face, which was bleeding. The deputy reported that when the victim removed the shirt, he could see gashes above and below the victim’s left eye. The victim reportedly said she and Delima had been fighting when Delima pushed her with two hands; she said she bit Delima to defend herself, and Delima grabbed a glass bottle and hit her on the side of the face, breaking the bottle into pieces and leaving a gash above and below her eye. The deputy reported finding a broken glass bottle and blood on the floor.

Delima has been charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon. She has four felony convictions (non-violent) and one misdemeanor conviction (non-violent). She has served two state prison sentences, with her most recent release in 2018, and she is on probation out of Pinellas County for property damage. Judge Meshon Rawls set bail at $75,000 and ordered her to maintain a separate residence from the victim.
