Woman on probation arrested for pointing a rifle during a fight in Alachua

Staff report

ALACHUA, Fla. – Shantavia D’Shante Jenkins, 37, was arrested last night and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon after allegedly pointing a rifle at another woman during a fight in Alachua.

At about 9:15 p.m. last night, Alachua Police Department officers responded to report of a shooting in the 13200 block of NW 151st Place; officers reported finding several people crowded into an outside patio area, and initial reports indicated that there had been a fight between Jenkins and multiple people.

Jenkins had reportedly been previously trespassed from the property where the incident occurred.

A woman reportedly told an officer that Jenkins had taken a rifle from another person during the fight and had pointed it at her, saying her name. She said she was in fear of being harmed and fled; she also told the officer that a gun was fired.

Post Miranda, Jenkins reportedly said there had been “an issue” at the location, and she was asked to go there to “assist with the situation.” She said someone gave her a knife before she left to go to the incident location.

Jenkins reportedly said a fight started between several people at the location, and during the fight, “guns came out,” and she asked a relative to help her.

Jenkins said a man grabbed her by the throat, and she heard a gun go off. The officer reported that while Jenkins explained this, she motioned with her hands as if she were holding a rifle and fighting with someone for control of the firearm. However, she denied possessing a firearm at any time during the incident. She also said she never took the knife out, but the officer reported that the knife was found on the ground near blood spatter and concluded, “This would indicate [Jenkins] was in proximity of a firearm and the person shot.” The officer also noted that there was blood on Jenkins during the interview.

Jenkins has five felony convictions (two violent) and five misdemeanor convictions (one violent). She is on drug offender probation after entering a plea of nolo contendere to five charges related to drug possession, possession of ammunition by a convicted felon, and driving with a suspended license following a March 2024 arrest. An affidavit of violation of probation was filed in July after Jenkins’ urine sample reportedly showed that she had been using methamphetamines and she signed a statement acknowledging this. She was issued a Notice to Appear for an August hearing.

Judge Donna Keim set bail at $300,000 on the new charges.

  • Another violent criminal with multiple felonies. There goes the neighborhood. More section 8, EBT, SNAP, Obamacare, SSI, and EEC government giveaways won’t do a damn thing to ‘fix’ this culture.

    • For Lou:
Isn’t SSI social security income? What would that relate to with those over 65 and Section 8, “Obama care” (Affordable health care act), etc.? Don’t demonize the nature of the entire assistance program due to one individual. You trashing the assistance programs isn’t going to assist that one person who is clearly one who needs to be kept institutionalized by the court of law. Comes off as very specific undertones in your comment that aren’t even necessary. Does THAT lady need to be kept in a facility? Yes. But some individuals who may be on assistance, in the demographic we assume she is also served in, have nothing to do with her actions. It isn’t even necessary to mention section 8, and any other government assist., with your remarks, quite frankly.

      • The courts need to mandate that all convicted felons caught with guns attend the GNVCC’s gun violence summit thing as part of their jail time & probation..

      • Henry, your obviously not familiar with the SSI scam this culture likes to abuse. Mothers of this culture try (and succeed) to get their children on SSI because of a number of fraudulent diagnosis. Once they start receiving SSI the mothers will pitch an absolute $hit fit if the doctor or therapist try to refuse to document developmental delays that are instead behavior and discipline issues. In addition, if their tantrums don’t get the results they want they will go and verbally assault the teachers and principle to get their SSI payments restored and they usually cave in and override the therapists recommendations.

        • Lou, you obviously are mistaken with your comments. Drs. and therapist are not swayed to override diagnoses based on a patient pitching a $hit $torm. Most of SSI of that culture get SSI because of claiming numerous children, from numerous father’s. They qualify under the guidelines, because they know how to beat the system in a semi-legitimate way. Too many kids and not enough income. Unfortunately the by-product is a very unstable home life for the kids resulting in problems for them later in life. It is a racket that needs fixing. And I’m as liberal as they come

          • Incorrect. I worked with therapists in the school system who had lot’s to share about how they were verbally abused by the mothers and decision was overridden by the principle. Fraud is rampant in SSI. Unstable homes are not a reason to fraudulently receive SSI.

      • Henry:

        Don’t take it personally.

He’s trying to point out the abuse of the welfare system and the culture in section 8 housing.

Social security is not supposed to be your only income, it’s there because a lot of people don’t save for retirement.

He’s probably correct that she has
Several different children with different fathers and she’s getting a Check from the government for each of them…

she probably lives in a section 8 housing that’s crapped up with roaches and filthy because she’s a slob.

She’s probably smoking crack or Molly or meth.

        She’s probably gets food stamps.

Her children are the ones ACSB is having problems with disrupting classrooms.

There’s another article in the AC today about dog fighting with pitbulls…

It’s always the wrong people who get these beautiful animals and don’t have a yard, chain them up, or fight them…

There’s youth who walk around like idiots with their underwear hanging out & grabbing their crotches talking like fools with BEV.

The rap culture glorifies this too.

        There’s convicted felons with guns…

    • Coming to a small lot clown house sec 8 affordable house in a single family residential neighborhood next to your homestead soon in GNV!

  • The dog days of August have brought out Alachua’s best. The rachet fights have started. Time for ticket sakes for the circus.

  • All the previous SCUMMY public attorneys and judges should be fired by DeSantis immediately. They have groomed a future capital murder criminal. 👹👿🤡👺💩ACLUSPLCDNC
