Woman with six warrants for violating probation arrested for stealing her mother’s car

Staff report

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Sequoia Lydell Brown, 35, was arrested early this morning on six warrants for violation of probation and was also charged with grand theft of a vehicle.

An Alachua County Sheriff’s Deputy responded to a report of a stolen car just after midnight; the victim, Brown’s mother, said Brown had taken her car at about 2:42 a.m. the previous day and had not returned it.

Deputies located the car heading southbound on NE Waldo Road, and a Gainesville Police Department officer conducted a traffic stop near the intersection of SE Williston Road and SE 5th Street.

Post Miranda, Brown reportedly said she was only an hour late returning the car and that she was running errands for her mother but couldn’t call because she doesn’t have a cell phone.

Brown has been charged with grand theft of a vehicle and was also arrested on warrants for violating probation in six cases, mostly burglary and fraudulent use of credit cards. Affidavits show that she failed to report to her probation officer and failed to report a change of address; this is her third probation violation. She has 11 felony convictions (all property offenses) and four misdemeanor convictions. Judge Thomas Jaworski ordered her held without bond on the probation violations and set bail at $25,000 on the vehicle theft charge.

Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

  • Six warrants? Stealing from your mom? What took so long?
I know someone who stole from his father while he was in the hospital. Then changed the beneficiary after his father passed.
If you can’t trust your family to do what’s right, what’s the world coming to?

  • District 1 has many many churches. Why the hell don’t they preach the 10 Commandments on every street corner there? Doesn’t that fit into current CRT thinking?

      • Ok I agree all races have criminals but you gave to admit that every person arrested this week are probably some of the most stupid people in the Alachua County area. I mean some of them hit every branch of the dumbass tree on the way down. And far as drugs it affects every race in the world. People who peddle drugs in their own community are doing nothing but killing them by feeding them poison. They have a special place in hell. All you have to do is look at the mugshots everyday to see the effects of drugs.

  • She is now facing problems as large as a sequoia tree. I wonder if it was a Toyota Sequoia that she stole??
