Staff report from Alachua Police Department social media post
ALACHUA, Fla. – The individual who was taken into custody yesterday after a “high-risk” traffic stop in High Springs has been released, according to a social media post from Alachua Police Department, and the shooting incident is still under investigation.
On Tuesday, March 4, 2025, at approximately 4:41 p.m., the Alachua Police Department (APD) responded to the 13800 block of NW 148th Place following reports of a shooting. Due to the nature of the call, assistance was requested from the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office (ASO) and the High Springs Police Department (HSPD).
Upon arrival, officers located a male victim who had sustained a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to his leg. Officers immediately rendered first aid and secured the scene for Alachua County Fire Rescue personnel to provide medical care. The victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment, and an APD detective responded to the hospital to continue the investigation.
While officers were attending to the victim on scene, it was determined that the suspect had fled the scene prior to law enforcement arriving. The investigation revealed that the suspect and victim were known to each other, allowing officers to obtain the suspect’s name, physical description, and vehicle details.
As ASO and HSPD units responded to assist, the suspect’s vehicle was located traveling north on NW U.S. Highway 441 toward High Springs. A “high-risk” traffic stop was conducted near NW U.S. Highway 441 and NW 218th Terrace in High Springs. The suspect complied with law enforcement and was taken into custody without incident. The individual was then transported to the Alachua Police Department for questioning by detectives.
At this stage of the investigation, it has been determined that a verbal dispute between the two individuals occurred prior to the shooting. This case remains under active investigation by APD’s Criminal Investigations Division. At this time, no arrests have been made, and the individual taken into custody has been released pending further investigation. Due to the ongoing nature of this case, no additional information will be provided at this time.
The Alachua Police Department extends its gratitude to the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office, the High Springs Police Department, and Alachua County Fire Rescue for their assistance in ensuring a safe resolution to this incident.
