Community rallies to support family of barber killed in I-75 crash
Staff report
HIGH SPRINGS, Fla. – Co-workers, friends, and clients of Raul Serrano are rallying to support his family following his death in a January 9 crash on I-75.
According to his obituary, Serrano was born in Puerto Rico and moved to Florida, where he obtained a barber’s license and co-founded Gents & Co. Barbershop. He married his wife Jadira in 2012, and they have two children.
Gents & Co. Barbershop posted a tribute to him on their Facebook page, remembering his energy and his smile: “To most he became more than just a barber, he became a friend, or even family. He made our shop feel like home.”
A friend has created a website to provide a place where stories about Serrano can be posted and members of the community can contribute to a GoFundMe for his family’s expenses, a meal train (or gift card donations), and a scholarship fund created in Serrano’s name. That website can be found here.
Serrano’s celebration of life will be held tonight (January 16) at 6 p.m. at Anthem Church (2902 SW 75th St.).
