ALACHUA COUNTY, Fla. – With Gainesville Police Department making domestic violence a priority, Alachua Chronicle will provide basic descriptions of domestic violence incidents as resources permit. The point is to familiarize our readers with the scope and scale of domestic violence in Alachua County, not to highlight the offenders. Names and booking photos of all of the offenders can be found in the daily Jail Booking Log.
Domestic violence arrests on June 19, 2026
- ASO responded to a residence in Tower Oaks on June 18, where a mother was arrested for allegedly beating her two-year-old child until she was unresponsive; the child later succumbed to her injuries, and the mother has been charged with second-degree homicide. - ASO responded to Majestic Oaks on June 19 and arrested a woman who allegedly scratched and bit her boyfriend, along with damaging his TV. She was charged with domestic battery and resisting an officer without violence.
- ASO arrested a woman in Hawthorne for allegedly threatening to shoot her boyfriend. She was charged with domestic aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Click here to read our article about this incident.
- GPD arrested a woman for allegedly punching her father in the face in a car because he would not take her to get her eyebrows shaped. She was charged with domestic battery.
Domestic violence arrests on June 20, 2026
- GPD arrested a woman for going into a downtown club and allegedly slapping her boyfriend in the face and hitting him in the groin. Post Miranda, she said she was upset that her boyfriend didn’t tell her he was going to the club, and she intended to hit him in the leg, not the groin. She was charged with domestic battery.
Domestic violence arrests on June 21, 2026
- ASO arrested a man for allegedly waking his girlfriend by choking her and then preventing her from leaving their residence. At one point, the victim said, she lost consciousness and woke up when the man punched her in the face until she fell off the bed. She ran to the kitchen, grabbed a knife, and called 911, and the man left. The deputy reported that the woman was spitting out blood and had extreme pain in her ribs and throat, along with dried blood on her mouth, a bloody eyeball, and a chipped tooth. The man was charged with domestic battery by strangulation.
- ASO arrested a man for chasing his grandson while holding a knife. Click here to read our article about the incident. The man was charged with domestic aggravated assault with intent to commit a felony.
Domestic violence arrests on June 22, 2026
- A GPD officer responded to Canopy Apartments and arrested a man for allegedly pushing his girlfriend into a couch and then trying to choke her before cornering her in the hallway. A witness reportedly saw the man pushing the victim in the hallway and slapping her. Post Miranda, the man said nothing physical had happened. The victim did not have any visible injuries. The man was charged with felony battery as a repeat offender (dating violence).
- ASO arrested a woman who had become angry because her girlfriend didn’t want to pick her up from work because she was hanging out with a family member and didn’t want to leave; the woman walked to the family member’s house and allegedly hit her girlfriend in the face and then grabbed the girlfriend’s phone and smashed it in the roadway. Post Miranda, the woman reportedly said she never put her hands on the victim and did not take the victim’s phone. She was charged with domestic battery and robbery by sudden snatching.
Domestic violence arrests on June 23, 2026
- GPD arrested a man in the 1500 block of East University Avenue after he allegedly grabbed his girlfriend’s keys while he was a passenger in her car; when she tried to get them back, she scratched her finger. He then allegedly threw the keys in the grass nearby and left on foot, leaving the victim’s vehicle stranded in the median. Post Miranda, he reportedly admitted to grabbing the keys but said the victim didn’t try to take them back. He was charged with domestic battery.
- GPD arrested a man for a June 15 downtown incident in which the man saw his on-and-off girlfriend with another man and allegedly punched her. The victim had injuries around her eye. The man was charged with domestic battery.
Domestic violence arrests on June 24, 2026
- ASO arrested a man at a residence on SR 121, north of Gainesville, for allegedly punching his girlfriend. The victim’s lip was bloody. Post Miranda, the man denied punching the victim but admitted that there had been pushing and scratching. A neighbor reported seeing the man pulling the victim from a vehicle and pinning her against the car. The man was charged with domestic battery.


GPD needs to be doing a “homeless crime” report too…
they can’t get the bums out of the medians at Waldo and 39th…
how can they reduce domestic crime besides reporting it?
I know how they can reduce homeless crime… start with zero tolerance for panhandling and illegal encampments..
