Frazer Quiz Bowl teams secure two spots for the Nationals in May 2025
Press release from The Frazer School
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Sixty-five students from across Florida lined up at The Frazer School on Saturday, Dec 14, to play Quiz Bowl and have a shot at winning the coveted trophy. Also at stake were two bids for the High School National Championship Tournament (HSNCT) in Atlanta, Georgia on May 23-25, 2025.
Quiz Bowl is a competitive, academic, interscholastic buzzer-based trivia competition for teams of four students. Thousands of middle and high school students from across the country compete in a fast-paced question-and-answer format to earn a spot on the national stage. Questions range across topics like science, math, history, and literature, as well as non-academic subjects like sports and popular culture. The matches feature a blend of individual competition and team collaboration, since no individual player is likely to be an expert in all subject areas. Participation in Quiz Bowl both reinforces lessons from the classroom and encourages players to develop new intellectual interests.
It’s a spectator sport. If you love trivia, you will be sitting on the edge of your seat, testing your own knowledge and marveling at the students’ knowledge and speed.
After a full day of nail-biting matches, the three Frazer teams swept Gold, Silver, and Bronze for the team awards and the top three individual scorers.
Frazer C (Pia Dudas, Abhiram Pothuri, Jaganesh Ramakrishnan, and Eric Li) won the tournament, narrowly defeating the other Frazer teams in their head-to-head games!
Frazer B (Westin Martin, Jessica Wu, Eric Gao, Connor Guthrie, and Vedaant Khare) took second.
Frazer A (Vijay Hans, Sophia Rong, Mark Shiau, and Adityaa Ravi) took third. Among individuals, Vijay and Westin were neck and neck all day, with Vijay winning highest scorer at 113 points per game, while Westin had 107. Abhiram took third with 64. This demonstrates that teamwork plays a big part in winning the championship.
“This (sweep) allows us to send a second team to the High School National Championship Tournament (HSNCT) in Atlanta on May 23-25,” said Mr. Geering, who coaches the Quiz Bowl team. “We have a lot of talented players; I’m looking forward to seeing who steps up for a spot on those two teams!”
The Frazer School had already secured their spot at Nationals when they claimed the Battle for the Beach championship in October in Jacksonville.
The Frazer School also triumphed at the Cottondale Hornet Invitational in November, with their star player Westin Martin earning the Player of the Week award from NAQT, the largest Quiz Bowl organization in the U.S.
Congratulations to everyone who won and to all those who participated. What an exciting event that must have been!
Congrats to these bright kids and to The Frazer School!
