The Gainesville City Commission held a Special Meeting on Sept. 30

BY JENNIFER CABRERA

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – At a Special Meeting today, the Gainesville City Commission finalized their property tax millage, keeping it flat at 6.4297 mills, and approved their FY2025 budget.

In a 10-minute meeting that was rescheduled from September 26 due to Hurricane Helene, the Commission set the property tax rate at 6.4297 mills, 6.37% higher than the rolled-back rate of 6.0444 mills but the same as last year’s rate.

Commissioner Bryan Eastman made a motion to adopt the millage rate, and the motion was approved unanimously.

The FY2025 General Fund budget is $155,368,126, about $1.1 million (0.7%) lower than the FY2024 budget. The all-funds budget of $458,900,453 is $3.5 million or 0.8% higher than FY2024.

Eastman made a motion to adopt the budget, and the motion was approved unanimously.

Mayor Harvey Ward said, “I will note that this follows months of public meetings regarding the budget that is before us today. This is merely the culminating vote, and there have been many votes along the way… Everyone has done wonderful work, yet again, on this budget under difficult circumstances, and I appreciate what you all have done.”

  • Good job my little minion commissioners. We have stuck it to the commoners again. We tell them that we are not raising the millage rate and the we greatly increase the values of their property. These underlings I rule over are so dumb they remind me of one of those punch toys I had as a kid, you know you punch it and it stands back in front of you over and over again. Anyway ruling over the dumb is so easy. Now off I go it see they turned on the Hot sign at my favorite donut shop.

    • My Dem liberal commissioners did a great job, better than the fascist Republican politicians who don’t know how to and can’t govern, are ineffectual, and instead screw the works up but good (see the 118th U.S. Congress).

      • Paulie: your dem liberal fascist commie commissioner hypochondriac sicko Sako 🐽 is really trying to make the face diaper 😷 a fashion comeback. 🤮

        Never waste a good crisis…

her and that 🐄 on the ACSB need to get their booster shots….💉

Please get your 💉 and wear your 😷 so you don’t typhoid Mary the unvaccinated.

I can see what a good job they do every time I get my GRU bill with that climate change saving biomass boondoggle and the bum magnet Grace Marketplace

They screwed up the works but good with GRU on that one & DeSantis had to appoint that utility authority to straighten sh!t out!

poke a whole through your mask and insert a paper straw so you don’t have to lower your mask to drink your commie koolaid…

Now, go back to your safeplace snowflake and be a super hero.

        • Her conservative Cuban daddy should buy her a plane ticket back to Havana. That would be the best thing for everyone. I guess you have to be really stupid to leave a communist dump country and then try to bring communism to the USA. Maybe she is just REALLY lazy and not hard-working/industrious like most Cubans.

      • It is clear you prefer the state BEFORE President Trump in America as well as the world and after. I prefer the America (and economy) during President Trump’s time in office as well as the state of the world. It is insane to me to prefer what we have been seeing internationally and nationally over the past near 4 years.

        • Defense contractors stocks are on the rise.
May be time to invest in some polished glass. 😉

      • You do realize they Broke your Woke City? Even a 5th grader could do that math. Now where’s that $68 Million you owe GRU Customers.

  • You all failed math K-1 thru k-12, yes?
    Stayed same against increased values?
Be prepared to pay more in 2025 like 2024.
They need to be reducing tax rates vs. GRU.

  • Wow…they unanimously rammed this increase thru during a hastily rescheduled and brief meeting just a few days after a hurricane? They are scared sh!less of public input. Everyone knows the racket between the government property appraiser and the city/county government….we aren’t stupid. We all know that government looks at us like piggy banks…it’s no secret.

I don’t care what side of the political isle you’re on….the current and previous local government operates like radical shysters
