  • Open mic poetry night will definitely help reduce violence…right?…

The city and county want to dedicate an entire month to raise awareness about violent criminals but they don’t want the violent criminal’s mugshots posted online? Cuz racism

  • I am aware of a Gainesville City policy that allows and encourages homeless vagrants, criminals, and drug addicts to come to our fair(y) city. When they address all the resources they spend on creating a homeless mecca then they might figure out why violence (knives too) is being tolerated.

  • How about an event to raise awareness of homeless violence?

It can be a very small event, since the only people in the entire city who are totally clueless about homeless violence are Mayor Ward and the rest of the the city commissioners.

  • This is the most ridiculous waste of money. The only people who are unaware are low IQ people, and they are the perpetrators, or they are responsible for them being here.

  • And my awareness of the problem causes me to exercise my 2A rights, and it’s very sad that it has come to this.

  • More of the same thing that seemingly never works. Hook and book seems to work better. Federal prosecution of felons wuth guns is working. Whether they get five years or life we dont see them for a while. Community safety tips? When you hrmear someone yell “Brace yourself” run for cover.

  • I’m not going to the streetery because
Can’t find any free parking downtown… who’s paying for that free food?

  • The citizenry is quite well aware of the gun violence in and around Gainesville.
What no one seems to know is why the lefty liberal politicians in Alachua county fail to act.
Tree huggin, bunny lovin liberals believe that open mike night will solve the problem.
    Good luck with that one.

    • They’re busy drinking beers 🍺 at the local brewery’s and then go to heartwood to drink some more and party on the $40,000 they gave to heartwood that they don’t have to pay back, and then meet up at the cotton club to cool off in the AC for the after party…

How far are they over for next years budget? $11,000,000?

They need to cut the stop gun violence poetry nights…
