Gainesville man arrested for indecent exposure for second time in three months

Staff report

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Stacey Ramone Scott, 51, was arrested yesterday for allegedly exposing himself and “playing with himself”; he was arrested in July on a similar charge, but the case was dropped because, according to the State Attorney’s office, the victim did not actually see Scott exposing himself.

At about 2 p.m. on October 26, a Gainesville Police Department officer responded to a Midtown residence, where the victim said she saw a man exposing his genitals and “playing with himself” while sitting on the front steps of a residence in the 400 block of NW 10th Street.

The officer reported that the man ran away when he saw the police car, but he was seen running on surveillance video, and another officer reportedly identified him as a result of previous encounters. Scott was arrested for the same behavior in July, just a few blocks away from yesterday’s incident, but according to the State Attorney’s office, the victim did not actually see him exposing himself, so prosecutors would not have been able to establish all the elements of the crime, and the charge was dropped.

Scott has been charged with a second or subsequent offense of indecent exposure. He has 12 felony convictions (two violent) and 32 misdemeanor convictions (five violent), including a 2017 conviction for indecent exposure; he has served two state prison sentences and was last released in July 2024 after serving a four-year sentence for five felonies spread across three cases. Judge Meshon Rawls set bail at $5,000.

Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

  • $5k bail??? He is a repeat offender of the SAME crime!! Not surprised about charges being dropped – Alachua County hates to prosecute 🤷🏼‍♀️

  • Don’t know what it may take to prevent the other 44 crimes he’s been convicted of from happening again, but if the particular component that caused this crime was removed, doubtful we’ll be reading about a 3rd arrest of this type.

  • Just put vetted citizen juries in charge of all local courts. Demote lawyers and judges. Crime will disappear overnight. 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸✅

  • A solid shot of pepper spray to the offending ‘member’ might dissuade Chester from future displays.
