Gainesville man sentenced to 50 years in prison for killing woman during home invasion robbery

Staff report

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Alderious Jerrad White, 32, has been sentenced to 50 years in prison after pleading nolo contendere to homicide and armed burglary for shooting and killing a woman during a home invasion robbery on July 19, 2022. Jason Travis Ward was previously sentenced to 30 years in prison for his role in the incident, and Tiara Lanae Luckey was sentenced to 15 years of probation for serving as the getaway driver.

According to police reports, Ward kicked down the door of the house, and then White entered the house, carrying a firearm. Once inside, White encountered D’halani Armstrong and shot her; she died as a result of the gunshot wound. White was shot by one of the victims and was arrested at the scene.

A few days before he was scheduled to go to trial, White entered a plea of nolo contendere to charges of homicide while engaged in burglary, armed burglary, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon; at the same time, he entered pleas in two other cases for cashing fraudulent checks. Judge Robert Groeb sentenced him to two concurrent sentences of 50 years in prison on the first two charges and a third concurrent sentence of 15 years for the firearm possession charge; White was sentenced to time served (1,193 days) on the other charges. Judge Groeb noted in the sentencing document that White must continue to provide truthful testimony against his co-defendants in the home invasion robbery case.

Somehow I don’t believe these types would get the luxury of waiting 3 years before being sentenced in other countries. No wonder people would rather stay in this country and still risk everything to get here.

    • The US incarcerates a higher percentage of our population than any other developed country in the world, including China.

      • Maybe the judiciary needs taken over by a vetted jury of citizens who don’t take crap?

      • You are correct. Why is this so? That is the big question, and the elephant in the room.

      • Here is a fun fact for you Jazzman, that may put a damper on your commie-loving: ‘China is estimated to execute thousands of people annually, with some reports suggesting figures as high as 8,000, although the exact numbers are classified as state secrets. The country is known to carry out more executions than all other countries combined.’

  • 50 years, serve 80% if you behave. Then there is gain-time, overcrowding. If he does 15 years I’d be surprised.
There was premeditation so why the judge didn’t do life without is anyone’s guess.
Welcome to the liberal 8th circuit.

  • 32, something went off track maybe years ago. Wonder what and how? Where’s the local Norman Mailer to write a boohoo book for us to understand him better?
